I'm new to playing Warmachine and really like Karchev, so I asked a local Khador player and we came up with this list:

Karchev
Beast 09
Juggernaut
Juggernaut
10 Winter Guard with Officer and Standard
Kovnik Jozef
Widowmakers
Wardog

I'd probably go with something like this personally.

Karchev the Terrible (*5pts)
* Berserker (6pts)
* Berserker (6pts)
* Berserker (6pts)
* Berserker (6pts)
* War dog (1pts)
Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)
Winter Guard Infantry (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
* Winter Guard Infantry Officer & Standard (2pts)
* 3 Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeers (3pts)

It gives you an extra jack, and lets you take the full WGDS, With the added bonus of deploying a Beserker bomb if you need to clear out some infantry.

I'm a little unsure about beserkers (due to their tendency to blow up occasionally) and Kovnik Jozef buffs the Winter Guard more than Rocketeers would IMO.

Outflanking

With berserker, they only blow up if you give them focus. They get free runs/charges, and Unearthly rage buffs all your attacks, meaning that you do not need to boost. Because Berserkers have 2 axes and chain attack, they can get a lot of millage out of that spell. At this point, the "blow up accidentally" thing becomes a feature.

Bezerkers are actually pretty good without Focus, and you can always put Focus on a dying bezerker to try and get it to blow up. Like in the middle of a swarm of infantry or right next to their caster.

A bezerker can get 2 and potentially 3 attacks, potentially boosted with Unearthly Rage.

All that and its just good fun to watch your opponents eyes, when you drop 4 Bezerkers on the table.

As to the Rocketeers, the extra three bodies and the Rng 12 POW 14 AOEs rock, not to mention that they also get Joe's buffs. that puts the unit with UA and Joe at 16 bodies to tarpit, hold objectives hit things with CRA/CMA, Spray attacks ect...

If you're taking WG, you need Kovnik Joe. And I wouldn't bother with too many berserkers because they're still mat 5. In terms of cost, I'd rather have a Juggernaut or beast09 or Behemoth instead of so many berserkers.

So should I stay with my original list? Add in rocketeers? Have berserkers?

Stick with your original for the moment, or change perhaps one Jugger to a different jack. Bezerkers can be good in a list, but 4 of them are only really good on perhaps a couple of casters in Khador, and you'll barely ever use more than one with most casters, so it's not great when your just starting out. Variety is the spice of life and all that .

You might find yourself wishing for a little bit more ranged power in this list, is my only concern, but it depends on what your opponents are playing. Sometimes it can be nice to have a bit more ranged power just to force an enemy forward a bit, though that's not too much of a concern if you're playing steamroller scenarios.

Also, do you know the Karchev powerslide? To extend your charge ranges on your jacks, have all of your jacks start a turn near him, cast his spell 'Tow', walk forward with Khachev and have him turn his back towards the enemy. Because of Tow, you can place all those jacks in his back arc, facing the enemy. Then, use Karchev's feat to allow him to turn around, so his back isn't to the enemy, and his jacks can then charge forwards from there, up to 8" further forward than the otherwise would have been. Your opponents will learn to expect it pretty quickly, but it can be funny the first time your line of SPD4 jacks catch an opponent by surprise.

I do know about the power slide; and it's hilarious! and I don't know what armies are played at my hobby store besides Khador, Cryx and Trollbloods. Like I said in the original post; this is my first army. I'll probably start getting other faction models but this is what I'm going for first as a starting collection.

Just pointing out, Karchev's feat can not turn him around because the turn takes place at the start of activation so you can't tow and then turn around.

Ah, really? Missed that. Ah well, I'll mention that to our Khador player, not that it makes a massive difference to Karchev's play style anyway.
