I've recently painted up one of the new Tau models, specifically the new commander. I went with a paint scheme based on some District 9 concept art. I also did some conversion work to represent a repulsion field.

Tell me what you think.

I really like the colour scheme, but you need to thin your paints.

Good color scheme. Reminds me of Jetfire.

I'm curious, how poseable is that model? Some of those views make him look like he's falling over - is that the only way those feet work?

Also, on seeing it like this, I'm not a big fan of hands on the crisis suit? What does he need to pick up?

In reference to how posable it is, the arms are one piece that attach at the shoulders. The right leg is already attacked to the hip sticking out, but the other leg comes separate and is slightly more posable. With a little work and some cutting, you can pose it upright.

I love it! Very striking colour scheme on him and I'm actually happy the new crisis suits have hands, makes them look like mechs now, not just blocky robot bodies that they started out as.

To the OP, do you know if Jess Goodwin did the designs for these? I know he did the original Tau line.

Awesome stuff! I like how you took the bold colors of the Tau scheme, but still kept the smooth finish and abnormal color field breaks that are typical of mainstream Tau concepts. Awesome work. Also, most of all I like that you make him look dynamic and in motion without using a damn clear acrylic post. (There is nothing in this hobby I hate more than the clear acrylic post.)

Hah, I opened up the thread and immediately thought District 9. I then read your description and was proved right. Nice work

I'll agree the painting needs to be a bit neater, but otherwise this is awesome stuff!
