Hello, here is one more question (and the last one for now xD). During night fighting can the imperial guard use the order "shoot" to make a uni shoot beyond 36 inches?.

I would appreciate some insight on this matter
Thank you

Does it allow them to ignore the restriction on targetting units beyond 36"?`

I honestly dont know, my guess is no. But I am hoping that somebody with the imperial guard codex can clarify this for us =)

All of the orders clearly state how they work either in the codex or in the FAQ. Just out of curiosity, what "to shoot" order are you referring to?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

But IIRC that just makes them forced to reroll cover saves, which does reduce the Night Fight benifit but it won't allow you to shoot beyond 36"

Ah, so you dont have the codex? In which case this forum isnt a replacement for having the rules, only where those rules are unclear

If you DO have a codex, please post a) the name of the order you are askng about and b) what about it makes you think it interacts with night fighting.

The order is the one that allows them to better shoot through cover. Yes i dont have the codex since I dont play imperial guard. I am asking this question since a more experienced player used it on me and I was left with the doubt about it.

I am sorry if it was misunderstood as I was using this forum to not read my codex, my intention was only to clarify some issues.

That is ok, we just have to be careful

If you are playing with someone and are unsure on a rule, there is absolutely no harm in aasking to see the codex. I do it all the time, expecially with codexes / rules i dont see often - penal legions D3 roll at the start, for example.

In this case the rule simply allows you a high er chance of causing an unsaved wound on models that would be relying on their cover save. It does not affect what you can Target with a shooting attack, and Night Fighting prohibits what you are allowed to Target

I think the crux of the issue is that the night fighting rule gives a cover save to units depending on distance to the firer. This is affected by the order.

I would add that both the unit giving the order and the unit firing need to have LOS. This means they both need to be within the range specified by the night fighting rule of the target.

The order will then affect the cover save that they get according to the appropriate rule from the IG codex (pg 30).

LOS != target range.

Nightfight does NOT affect, in any way shape or form, the LOS you have to the target

The rule is that the officer has to have LOS: this is NOT restricted to the 36" range limit on Targetting, because LOS != targeting range

The unit firing MUST be within 36" due to night fight, AND have LOS as normal

I was taking the words "completely hidden in darkness" to mean no LOS.

I suppose RAW nothing explicitly denies LOS, but I'd feel rather grubby exploiting that one.
