G'day Fellow Dakkanaughts!

Just boshed together a colour scheme test on a termigant and I'm after a few suggestions as well as a bit of a poll on what would make a nice table-top scheme...
Also after some suggestions on how to hightlight the purple. Specific colour or just add white or bone to xeno purple?

I'm partial to the original genestealer scheme but think it would look too bland on the table-top.

For the main body in the Original scheme I'm using Kantor Blue, hightlighting with The Fang and washing with Drakenhof NightShade
Fleshy bits are Xenos Purple washed with Druchii Violet.
Hoofs/Claws are Mournefang Brown, XV-88 and Ushabti Bone
Weapon and tounge/eyes has Moot Green bits.

Alternatively I've only done the carapace in the Kantor/Fang combo and covered the rest with purple. Fleshy bits are Moot Green. The Green has also been washed with Durchii Violet and i think it ties it all in nicely...

Your thoughts, opinions, musings and vitriol are welcome.

No real reason, but I think the second one looks far better.

I did second too -

When doing a color scheme, I have noticed that the more you break up a color, but not unnecessarily so, the better a model looks

Your top where the skin and 'pace are both blue - it looks like one solid piece. the bottom one shows that they are different parts of the model (like soft armor and hard armor on Fire Warriors)

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still not sure how to highlight the purple, though.

Genestealer purple seems to be the best to highlight..

I've found the easiest way to highlight Nids in bulk is to drybrush over the base colour with a white/grey dry paint then add appropriately coloured washes or glazes. It saves so much time and sanity when doing 30+ gaunts at a time.

This is Longbeard Grey on a black base, with Nuln Oil to tone it down. Took very little time for a decent effect:

Magnificent! Thanks for the tip. I just so happened to pick up blue and purple washes on Sunday! Woohoo!

BTW: Checked the gallery and your Space Hulk genestealers are neat!

It is a bit too dark for my taste, and I find the lack of difference between flesh and carapace to be off-putting.

Personally, when I paint a color scheme I set up with 4 to 5 colors per "color." Such as: My bugs are light blue carapace with a white bottom. The charapace start Lothern Blue, get a wash of Drakenhof Nightshade, heavy drybrush of the Lothern blue, drybrush of Ushtabi Bone, and edge in White Scar. The bottoms start with a white primer, a wash of Nuln Oil, a drybrush of Ushtabi Bone, and a drybrush of White Scar. I dapple in a little The Fang just under the carapace to add a little detail work. The claws are Abadon Black, with a drybrush of Eshin Grey, a drybrush of Dawnstone, and edgeing in Longbeard Grey. Base with a snow terrain I got from a hobby store and some small pieces of black shale, and they look really great. And if your group painting (highly recoment this for Tyranids) I can put out a group of 10 in about 30 to 45 minutes, from primed white to sealed and finished. I also like putting 'ard coat on the claws and teeth to make them shiny. I've also been working on a few techniques to add a blood splatter, or artirial spray to some of the models, witch look amazing on the snow. If you end up putting plants on the base, I think it would look good on the green as well.

I disagree. I think it gives an almost black widow effect with the stark contrast between the wings and carapace. I like the shade of red that was used and there are just enough highlights on the wings to make them interesting

I agree with it being too dark and not enough contrast between carapace and skin. I've highlighted the skin up with a lighter purple and then a secondary highlight with almost a pink.

The carapace I want to build up to a very light blue, Lothern Blue I think...hope it will brighten it up a little and hopefully not wash out the bright green fleshy bits too much...

Erhm...I was of course talking about the paint job presented by the OP, not the picture of an example of a painting technique presented by Xttz.

So I quickly slapped on some more colours and it looks a little brighter...

I'll give the "grey drybrush and then wash" method a go on the other side... probably tomorrow night.

I like it! Post updates when you can. I'm doing 'nids right now, too (very very different color scheme). I love the green and purple together, though.
