A thought occurred, and till the new tau dex dropped has never came up before.

Boarding Planks on ork vehicles allow a single model embarked on the trukk or battlewagon to attack a vehicle within 2 inches, provided neither vehicle has moved more than 12 inches (ignoring RPJ of course), and they "count as assaulting for that attack"

Technically youre assaulting the vehicle.....and now that tau vehicles can overwatch do they still overwatch a boarding plank attack since it specifically says its an assault move?

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Overwatch is triggered by declaring a Charge. This doesn't happen with a boarding plant.
And you can't target a unit inside a transport, so even if they could Overwatch, they can't target the Ork.

If the Tau vehicle does have the appropriate upgrade to allow it to overwatch, then I would say yes.

EDIT: Hmm. Good point about not being able to target the models inside the vehicle. Do the embarked orks get a charge bonus when attacking in this way?

I encourage you to check the Ork codex again, because you appear to be misquoting it. Instead, it allows one model to Attack "as if disembarked and charging", which makes clear that the model gets to attack, but is not actually charging. They do not declare a charge, they do not move, they do not get locked in assault, there is no combat resolution, etc. All the plank allows is for the model to make attacks. There is no assault, there is no declaration of a charge, so there can be no overwatch.

This is exactly right - no overwatch shots since there is no charge.

figured as much, i was just thinking that since i get charge benefits as though it were an assault he'd overwatch. Probably be against the vehicle in this case if it were possible, but you raise valid points.

Doubt it'll ever come up as pretty much every time i take planks i end up going against a no-vehicle army list >.< go figure right lol
