This has gotta be an older YMDC, but prolly getting brought up again with Tau's resurgence.
Let's say I join a unit of Crisis Suits and an ethereal. While staying in coherency, can the XV8s use their Thrust Moves in the Assault Phase? The ethereal never moves (or could go 6" up) and the Assault JSJ move still has all in coherency.
Legit?
Or is this a case of "A unit can only move as fast as its slowest member" ?

It's unclear, the "slowest member" caveat only applies to charging now, not to other forms of movement, but the Thrust Move rules are written dealing with Jet Pack Units, so when a unit is mixed between Jet Pack models and non Jet Pack models, there's no obvious RAW resolution for the situation.2

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Would the "normal member of the unti for alll rules purposes" not count here?
I.E. it doesnt stop being an elite unit, or a FW unit is still a troop unit, so this would still be a Jet Pack unit - albeit one where one model canot make that move

P.10 "Different Movement Distances within a Unit"
The JSJ is part of the Crisis Suits maximum movement allowance, as is running etc.
P. 47 describes JSJ as "move just as they would when using their jet packs in the Movement phase"
I see no issue with using the JSJ move with Crisis Suits with an attached Ethereal, so long as the unit maintains coherency.

Of course it doesn't; contradictory terminology aside, we know perfectly well that being a member of a unit does not, in itself, entail sharing the unit type.

Which isnt what I was saying, at all. I would suggest you read the post again, more slowly, rather than selective quoting.
It is a unit of Jet Pack models, and you join an IC. Does it stop being a JetPack UNIT?
I am not saying the IC *gains* the JP rule, rather I am saying the unit doesnt stop being a JetPack Unit
Same as a DE character joining an Eldar unit - it remains an Eldar unit as the IC is a normal member of the unit for ALL rules purposes.
A non-jet pack IC joining a jet pack unit does not stop it being a Jet Pack Unit
