Hi , posted some Plague Zombies the other day but as I've got much more going on I thought I'd start a bit of a plog to show everything.

First a scrap Rhino bought as rubbish from eBay , I'll be using my bit box , plasticard , great Machinator parts and a shed load of filler !

Got quite alot of the pre- paint work done today , basic assembly is done minus the Machinator tracks and now I get to run my Dremell tool with a "ball cutter" all over the flat surfaces to create a rusted , corroded 10 000 year old Nurgle rotted tank effect . Cutting speed should be keep low so you cut rather than melt the plastic.

Probably ought to add at this point that sharp rotary tools are dangerous , you probably didn't ought to breath all that plastic in . And you will be REALLY REALLY unpopular if you aren't handy with the hover at the end !

Using the Dremmell is kinda cool , not only will it add interest to the flat Rhino sides but it will help disguise some of the dodgy modelling the Rhino had previously suffered. Anything that can't be Dremmelled out can be corrected or hidden with Green Stuff later , and the big holes filled.

I also decided if I was going to mess up my modelling table with all that ground up plastic I may as well do the 3x eBay Chimera's for my Traitor Guard. They won't be done as heavy as I figure they won't have been around as long as the Death Guard geezers.

While the GreenStuff cured I cleaned up the excellent Machinator tracks , not too arduous a task really as most of the flash came off when I scrubbed off the release agent leaving only some sprue attachment points.

I'm considering at this point adding a few " subtle " spikes bursting thru the hull armour and maybe some Nurgley icons .
So Plain or Spikes ? Thoughts ?

Added a few spikes "bursting " thru the hull today , and fitted the really nice looking Machinator tracks , I really ought to have dry fitted and trimmed each track piece individually to get a really good looking fit , I got one spot on and the other is a little out on the rear idler , this is entirely my red wine fault and not the fault of the product. Bum.

Also fitted a fairly crappy looking piece of cabling to the plasma cannon , it had to be fairly straight so it cleared the hull and exhausts , its not great but at least its there.
Which brings me nicely to the plasma cannon , I fitted it on a whim , could some one who actually knows the rules of the game tell me if its game legal ? worth having ? and any drawbacks ?

Just looked at the tracks in the last pic , and it looks like some kind of funny , weird photo effect thing is going on there as I filled them smooth , honest !

Thanks mate , I used one of the Chimeras as a test model for painting today , and tbh made a mess of it , so now checking out some rust tutorials !

I've been using the weathering powders for rust effects. Works well.

I've not used them before but the results look good , I'm tempted . Simple enough to use ?

Re did the messed up test Chimera , its ok but I still think its lacking something .
Criticisms welcome , this is my first go at a Chimera AND a Nurgle vehicle and just think its needs a little something extra.

I think this looks fantastic. It's not the typical puke green but who cares, if anything I prefer the scheme. It's unique and that's great. Looking Frwd to more! And also, the texture from the Dremel is really really cool.

Thanks mate .

The colour is Coat D'arms Field grey . Its a grey/green that I think will work really well for Nurgle / Death Guard types.
I think what's putting me off this model at the minute is it just isn't weathered enough yet . I'll try some stronger streaking and then dust it up a bit.
But in general I'll probably be doing the rest of the Nurgle vehicles like this ( 2 more chimera , 2 rhino , 2 predators , 2 Dreadnoughts and possibly a LandRaider )

Like I said , its a WIP !

Got a little more done tonight , getting to like the Nurgle look so much its dragging me away from Marines !
Thoughts ? Queries ? Criticisms ?
[Thumb - DSCF1008.JPG]
Its not too obvious in this pic but weathered the Chimera up a lot more , adding rust steaks on a rust background is fairly hard to ge it to show ! Then dusted it up a little , fairly happy with it now.

I'm not a fan of the texture of the tanks, because they don't look.. correct. Your painting has done the tank justice though, so keep it up!

Hi , thanks for the comment , I'm not sure of your meaning of " correct" .
Does the texture not look a little like corroded 1000 year old metal or is something else ?
I'm new (actually , returning after 25 yrs ) to 40k and would like to get it "correct" !!!

IMHO i think the metal looks spot on. i understand what youre shooting for and think youve hit it right on the head.
i like the chimera much more than the rhinos but maybe thats just because theyre not complete

I like 'em. They look like they've been underground or under the sea for generations - but being good old Imperial tech, they just needed a quick service (or a bit of Daemonic chanting) and off they go again!

Looking forward to seeing more

Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

Thanks alot mate.
It could be that the rhino's arn't finished but TBH I did them slightly differently too , I dremmelled them and then built up a little with greenstuff , trying to emulate the bloated , oozing armour type look you often see on Plague Marines. Hopefully it'll come across better when they get more paint on !

Thanks mate , having worked a fair bit by the sea and on ships I got the idea from looking at the devastation salt water causes to steel in about 10 minutes !

Just for you Randy , kinda , I present my resurrected ( geddit ?) first bunch of Traitor guard that I painted under terrible light with out any real idea of what colours I should be using. They turned out a bit of a bodge , way too dark and green looking . Then I saw some guys using Tamiya Clear Red as gore and decided I'd try a bit on my "trash" guard. Whilst they're still not great I think they'll be good enough for cannon fodder.

Last two pics are of some Cadians my boy lost interest in , I've recycled them with Kromlech German Gasmask heads and MaxMini German Heads.
I thought these would make great traitor Guard. I love the heads , they' re really great , but are a little on the small side ( ie not GW heroic mellon heads) .

Both companies (Kromlech and MaxMini) sculpts are very fine and detailed , just watch you don't squeeze them too hard when you hold them to trim of the sprue or you'll damage the very thin helmet rim.

Ooh ta,

I do like the zombies, nicely posed and very characterful but I do think the heads on those cadians look a bit too small. It's just the paler heads (maxmini?) You might get away with it when they're painted. Just my opinion however.

The way you have the whole tank deteriorating is amazing bro. Reminds me of the Russian tank graveyards in Afghanistan.

Thanks . You're right about the heads , it is more noticeable with the paler Maxmini heads but both company's are smaller. I'm gutted as I really liked them and got all excited about the idea of an armoured platoon of Traitor Zombie Nazi's to pair up with some Plague Marines.
Gonna splash some paint on and hope for the best !

Thoughts ?

It needs those darker, more blue-gray metallic areas, like the other chimera above. Currently it's just looking like battered copper instead of rustified.

Other than that, I'm not one of the best people to give advice or criticism on paintjobs, I don't really know what I'm doing with my own stuff

Man, dr, this is great. This rotting metal effect is just so funky! It really looks ancient and wind blown, like its been in a Martian sand storm for 2000 years. I may have to get a dremel....

I'm just afraid of drilling a hole through my finger. Can you do really tiny precision drilling with it as well? I don't see how you wouldn't hurt yourself trying to drill a hole through a bit only 1mm big:/
