I am just wondering if the success of the KS has caught Ninja studios and Palladium by surprise and the slow stretch goals are bacause there is not much more planned inthe tank at the momemt.

The new stretch after the extra fighter is likely to add the Pod Artillery and then liklley is a double up for other Destriods.

What then new model wise, z battle armour would be nice but what would it contribute game wise. new character models are always welcome, but the zentradi may fall behind again there. Other then that what is lef without moving the series forward, which may be was planned as the next KS project.

For me a few extra boosts to the basic median pledge Battlecry would not go amiss, double up on the destroids and maybe add the two other models, add more pods with full sprue sets to make up whatever.

I'm in but am holding off adding for a week or so, till I see a bit more of what is planned

There is only one problem with including the Invid Invasion into this game...the scale. Can you imagine how TINY a cycloe would be at this scale?

Now, with that being said, I would LOVE it if they went all out. At this point, however, I am simply looking for the Female Power Armor!

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

6,800 Pts. Ultramarines, 1,500 Pts. Deathwatch, 1,000 Pts. Black Templars, 1,000 Pts. Blood Ravens, 1,000 Pts. Emperors Children, 2,000 Pts. Word Bearers, 3,500 Pts. Eldar (Alaitoc or Biel-tan), 2,000 Pts. Tau, 2,000 Pts. 2,500 Pts. Brotherhood, 2,000 Pts. Undead, 2,000 Pts. Sylvan Kin Elves, 2,000 Pts. Empire of Dust, 3,000 Pts. Orcs with Goblin Allies

The one on the right.

They also have a Heavy version, with four heavy missiles.

Anyway, I was looking over the boxes and I decided to throw some numbers around and I guess the reason the $140 level isn't that impressive to me so far, is that it's only got what amounts to about $40 over the $80 box + a couple add-ons. I can buy what they are putting in the $140 box already, so technically I'm not being given anything extra. The only items that seperate it are the Roy fig, the "special valk" (which amounts to 1 extra head option), and the art. Everything else can be bought, which brings it up to..... around $140.

This depends heavily on what you'd be buying above and beyond the base box.

Let's assume that a person wants to play some large scale battles, or is hoping to have one box with enough contents to run two smaller games (which is looking quite possible at this rate).

$80 base box
+$25 for the extra Valkyries
+25 for the extra Battle Pods
Total: $130.

Now, that means that the battlecry tier has you paying $10 for:
Piece of art (subjective value, would probably cost about $10 if it were a tier on its own by comparing to the other 2 art tiers).

So now we're about even.

Rick LE figure: $15.
Roy LE Figure: $15.
1 Valkyrie. Ignoring the heads thing, that's half a Valkyrie pack. $12.50
3 Battlepods. $12.50
Extra Officer's Pod and Recon Pod: $25.
Total: $80 in bonus figures.

That's a pretty hefty bonus above and beyond the cost of the base box. I will, however recognize that it requires one to have been interested in buying all of those figures in the first place. If someone just wanted to play small scale games of 2 fighers and 2 destroids versus 12 battle pods or something, the base/core box is indeed a better value. For some people, it is likely wiser to just buy the base box and then see that $60 difference as cash to spend on the exact extras they want, rather than getting a pile of 'filler' stuff they don't.

It's certainly not cut and dry, but at the same time, I feel it does a disservice to dismiss what is a pretty reasonable amount of swag being added on, especially since we're still in the first third of the campaign (based on time, who knows where we stand based on goals they can add). Who knows, in 3 weeks we may come back to this matter and find that practically everything is doubled and there are another half dozen LE figures people are frothing over.

Or we might just have another bunch of dice and expensive add ons.

Or, far more likely I feel, we'll have a mix of paid add ons and box upgrades and some nods to the people in the upper tiers who are committing a good chunk of cash on a product almost entirely unseen. Especially us poor international folks.

Anyway, I'm not trying to brow beat you into thinking the Battlecry tier is a good deal. If it's not for you, that's cool. I just started running the math in my head as I read your post and said to myself "wait a minute... that's not quite right...".

Edit: as for 'running out of gas', no, I think they may be pacing themselves a bit conservatively so they don't hit the crescendo of the campaign in the second week, but there are still a good half dozen units, and another half dozen unique figures that the fans would eat up and beg for more. And that's before they began to start hitting some of the more background elements, and the ability to increase add on box size and begin to shuffle things into the core boxes themselves basically gives them infinite room to move.

Stretch A: unlock figure X add on.
Stretch B: increase figure X in add on.
Stretch C: add 1 or 2 of figure X to the Battlecry tier.
Stretch D: unlock figure Y add on.
Etc.

They could do that with Super Veritechs, Armoured Veritechs, Artillery Pods, Scout Pods and the Powered Armour and it'd probably see them through the next quarter million or more.

Edit 2: that said, once you add S&H, it does become more like $200 worth of figures for $170, which is not an amazing discount. However, I do believe that will improve in the next 3 1/2 weeks, and every extra figure and upgrade that goes in the box is icing on the cake.

Exactly; for the collectors, the base box plus add ons to get at least one or two of every model is for them.

Then there's me. I want 4000 battle pods.

yup! like 8mm. I would love to see a base with like 3 Cyclones on it represent a "unit", and probably also a "unit" with two scouts. I think a Shock Trooper would probably fit on one base though, they're shorter than a destroid but pretty bulky.

This would make an interesting stretch goal. I wonder if they have the rights for it. I think they have rules for it in the RPG.

Southern cross was actually pretty good. I have the RPG book, there are tons of units and mechs that didn't make it into the show, or only appear for like a second.

Cyclones would really need their own stand as they are almost as powerful as a Macros Valkyrie. Individually they would be better than battle pods.

This basically sums up my hesitation. For me to back a kickstarter I have to either:
A) Get a access to a decent amount of limited things (ie Zombicide)
B) Get a lot of stuff at a really discounted price (ie Reaper)

If I don't get either of these things I'm basically pre-ordering an unknown commodity. There's a very real risk of bad rules and/or poorly made figures. Also I can usually get ~25% off from online retailers, so if $80 is going to be the MSRP there has to be a lot of incentive to buy the $140 box.

That's the Garland from Megazone 23, not a Cyclone.

I think they did use the Garlands in that horrific Clash of the Bionids movie, but not in the Macross series itself.

Clash of the Bionoids was a Hong Kong re-edit and dub of Macross Ai Oboete Imasuka.

Megazone 23 formed the basis of Robotech The Movie: The Untold Story - which was a portion of Megazone 23, some Southern Cross footage, and about 20 minutes of newly commissioned footage to fit it in. I used to have a copy of it. I wonder where it went...

I was told there would be no math!

I don't have my numbers in front me at work to refute and explain how I came to that conclusion.

I will be home in awhile and I will provide more info!

So, nyah!

[Edit for maths]

So if you buy the $80 and spend another $85 you get all the stuff at $140 minus 3 pods, 1 Valk. (which is basically another head bit), Roy, and the art. So you save $25 and get another $40 for a grand total of $65 worth of free stuff. Which again, isn't anything to balk at but it isn't exactly something to cheer about to bring everyone to the KS.

My main point all along is that; so far it just seems sort of soft, weak in the knees, lacking punch?

They still haven't reached the point of... OMFG I MUST HAVE THIS BECAUSE THE DEAL IS SO AWESOME!....for the people on the fence, or waiting in the shadows.

Most of us in the thread are already there based on nostalgia or some other reason, unseen, giant robots, etc.

I'm not so sure. The more I brood on that vid, the more I think the rules out of the box will be crunchier than their tactical depth merits.

As to the rules in the demo remember they are just that: demo rules on a 2'x2' board. The rules themselves are still in playtesting. Therefore, judging the full gamut of rules based on a >20 minute demo video is a little harsh.

I think the rules are rather interesting, and show the possibility of having quite a depth to them. Of course, I'm basing that on a >20 minute demo video, so there is equal chance that either you or I are correct.

No argument there. Personally I think it's an okay deal, but can see how someone who might not have quite the same nostalgia draw would see it as being on the cusp and could go either way.

On one hand, I'm happy with what I'd be getting, but on the other, hey, the more that comes in the less I have to pay after the fact for extras, so win/win. And the better a deal they can afford to make it, the more likely more people will join and make it an even greater success. Though of course, the more people join, the more free stuff they have to send out... man, KS campaigns are like hitting moving targets from other moving targets which are themselves attached to yet another moving target.

Edit: and yeah, that's a light Artillery pod on the right ("hiding" behind the hill). There's a "heavy" version, which fires larger/more devestating missiles.

I know it's not a cyclone. Nobody in their right mind could mistake it for a cyclone, it's not even from the same generation.

The cyclone statement statement still stands. The cyclones are roughly as powerful as a Valkyrie depending on weapon lay out.

Yeah, by the Palladium rules, a Cyclone has similar (if not the same) damage taking capacity as an old school Veritech Fighter.

Of course, they're not packing nearly as many missiles and their sidearm doesn't pack quite the punch of a GU-11 (though I don't think it was as far off as one might think).

Basically, Cyclones vs Battlepods would be a hell of a fight.

One thing would be that they're not nearly as fast as Fighters/Guardians... can't quite recall how they stand up to Battloids sprinting/jumping.

A few choice stats from the new edition of the RPG:

VF-1
Main Body - 350 MDC
GU-11 damage - 2D6x10
running speed - 121 mph

Battle Pod
Main Body - 125 MDC
Particle Cannons damage - 2D4x10 for dual-barreled shot
Running Speed - 176.2 mph

VR-052 Cyclone
Main Body - 225 MDC
4 forearm missiles - 1D4x10
EP-40 pistol - 4D6
EP-37 rifle - 1D6x10
speed - assisted pilot's running speed +25%, cycle mode is 175 mph

As you can see, armor-wise the cyclone is worth about 2 pods, but aside from the 1-shot mini missiles it can't dish out as much damage as a single battle pod. The cyclones remain mostly unchanged in the new RPG books, but iirc the VF-1 had like 250 MDC main body before and the Battle Pods originally only had 50 MDC!

man, I can't WAIT for New Generation minis to come! Macross is neat and all, but there's a bajillion models for it already floating out there. There's very little MOSPEADA and even less Southern Cross. Which is sad, because New Generation has been scientifically proven in readily repeatable lab and real-world testing to be the superior of the 3 Robotech parts. It's true, trust me. I'm a doctor or something.
