After spending god knows how much on GW minis, what I'm spending on this seems like nothing compared to what I'm getting. Besides with all the freebies at this rate, we'll be getting better deals than your "cheap ass odd man out" ways XP

Hey, someone's got to hold up the first half of the spending Bell curve and I volunteered early. If you do end up watching the show to help you get a better feel for it, make sure you watch either the protoculture edition or the current blue colored macross box as they have the cleaned up and restored footage. I'm rewatching my older DVDs since this kickstarter and the animation is literally dirty on a bigger screen and upscaled. I didn't notice the difference until I watched some youtube footage from the newer versions and it was quite obvious. Also, ignore the giant space tuna and the bright idea of taking an infant with you on a high risk assault onto an enemy fortress whose defenders significantly outnumber you.

I don't doubt that your deal will be better but if you're spending more then you deserve it. I've largely stopped buying GW stuff over the past few years except for codexes for my existing armies so the ridiculousness of their prices doesn't affect me as much. I've done a good job over the last 5 years of "recycling" my hobby funds from trading/selling my units for newer 40k stuff so the last straw for me was the finecast bungling switchover combined with the price increase. Trading a ridiculously priced unit I picked up 5 years earlier for half price for an equally ridiculously priced unit takes alot of the sting out of the current costs but I've still pretty much given up on GW regarding new purchases. Heavy Gear isn't priced much better but I got a ridiculously good deal on a huge lot from a closed store (or one that was dropping the HG line completely) on ebay. Xwing and Robotech are what I'd consider good values in gaming from my current repetoire of games I intend/hope to play.

For me the key is variety. I'd rather drop down to the $70 preorder level (assuming someone wants to switch with my $130 preorder) and then add exactly the add ons I want than get a better deal at a higher cost and end up with less unit variety. I'm hoping to max out my spending around $200-210 for this kickstarter so I don't have as much wiggle room at the $130 mark for add ons and am largely dependent on hoping the units I want get added in as freebies. I expect that 2 or 3 artillery pods (3 assuming that will be the final number in the add on after another stretch goal ala the gnerls) will eventually get added to the core set as a stretch goal in the last few days of the KS on top of the existing pledger stretch goal of 2 free with battlecry. If that's the case and they throw in the super and armored veritech (one each) with blitzkrieg, I'll stick with the $130 and just add on my MAC II and 1-2 boxes of female power armor (depending on what a legal squad consists of). If I can't fit that in under $210, then I'll drop down to the $70 and just pile on the add ons at the cost of core unit freebies like standard vf-1a's and regults.

I'm with Spartan, you don't even want to know what I have wrapped up in minis. My poorly updated BA paint log thread gives some numbers on just 1 army I own. That alone is enough to make a person sick.

So I came to this KS planning to spend at least $500.

I don't even know what will happen if they actually do make Armored VT's, Super VT's, Zent Armor, other characters, and/or other vehicles.

Don't get me wrong I love 40k, like I said earlier I collect and play for total fun but GW is so expensive, I'm really hoping the outbreak of better priced games will make them lower their prices. Why is it so expensive anyway?

The vast majority of units I want are in the basic set to begin with, the only add ons I'd get are artillery pods and maybe a MkII.

I'd be quite surprised if they didn't cover most of those. Even with padding most add ons as double stretch goals (one to introduce it and another later one to boost its model count), they're quickly running out of unique mechs in the series that aren't sprue upgrades of existing models (like the artillery pods compared to regults and super veritechs compared with regulars). I certainly hope the game has myth levels of increased funding during the last 48 hours as I expect alot of the fringe units to get proposed and funded at that time (like zentraedi infantry and non-protoculture vehicles like tanks/helos/etc).

In a way, I'm hoping that they eventually take the mantic way out if the kickstarter becomes too much of a success for them to handle. Instead of just delaying everything for 6 months like relic knights, I hope they ship things in staggered releases or (if they can't afford that) give people the option of getting stuff in staggered releases for an extra shipping fee or waiting till its all done and not paying extra. I'd rather pay an extra $10 in october to make sure that I get most of my toys in december rather than waiting until march 2014 to get all of them at once.

@Spartan: GW will never lower their prices for existing kits without a signficant change (like finecast to plastic... and then if you're lucky and they don't get goldsworded). They may drop stuff a little when they go from 1 crisis suit to 3 in a box but you're buying in bulk and they're getting 2.5 guaranteed times the cash for a 0.5 savings for you.

Amen, Spartan-Kun!

Me want NOW!

It'll be nice to get away from GW. So sick of their BS. Besides, if Robotech had existed like this before, I might never have given GW a single slender pence.

Waited decades for some tabletop Robotech!

Sigh... they finally listen to feedback and put up some good goals and then the pledges slow to a crawl. I'm guessing its the weekend and people being out and away from their computers. Other new high profile kickstarters like the Mantic one probably draw away some attention as well.

It's in the canon that there are desegregated fleets. In one scene Azonia (or maybe Miriya, have to go check) gives an order to a male Zentraedi, and there's definitely a male Zentraed in a Female Power Armor at one point. And interestingly in Force of Arms there's purple Male Power Armor.

I get the feeling that the overwhelming majority of the chaff units are male (in regults or gnerls) but a lot of ace pilots and commanders - cloned from better stock, are far more integrated.

I've seen that happen a fair few times, the KS comments section gets what it thinks are a great stretch goal, and crash things slow to a crawl

It could well be the weekend or the fact that the early burst of folk who had been waiting for this have now all backed

but equally what really appeals to the hard core (which is what those who hang out in a KS comments are) may not appeal as much to the mass of more casual backers

I just got one of the metal regult pods that they were giving away at Adepticon from my friend. Even though it's metal...it's still cool to own some Robotech minis...I plan on assembling it tomorrow. I can't wait for this game to hit the shelves. Take my money!!!!!

Indeed... now that there are newer kickstarters out, we'll be dropped faster than Lisa Hayes every time that incestuous teenage tart Minemi walked by Rick Hunter! The total really crawled today and it looks like we'll hit the 400k mark tomorrow.

@CaptKaruthors: Congrats on the battlepod! Out of curiosity, is the torso hollow?

Can't tell you how many times I wanted to smack Rick upside the head as I recently rewatched the Macross portion of Robotech. And shove Minmei out an airlock.

LOL, yeah. I've been rewatching the show for the first time in over almost two decades from beginnng to end and he is such an idiot! There was a website recently that called macross the best love story around and I'll have to disagree. The only things I learned about love from Rick Hunter are that:

1) if you've got a woman who loves you and shares your interests, you need to string her along and focus instead on the jailbait capricious tart who would rather flirt with her own family member and string you along.

2) if your friend tells you that you he's marrying a woman he just met, has almost nothing in common with, and that they were literally at each others' throats right before the proposal, you need to explain to him that he needs to rethink the decision... unless of course she's hot. In that case, you give him your blessing and tell him that you'd hit that too.

Sounds like me and my wife. So I did learn something from Robotech after all.

I'm hoping this backer slump is going to end soon. Kind of sad seeing a good stretch and a flatline of pledges/backers.

This is worse than the +1 Gnerl hit.

I don't want to keep talking about the slump and maybe exacerbating it even more so I'll change the subject.

I do hope they tweak the proposed squadron changes they posted earlier. I was a bit surprised that you could field horde veritech squadrons of 8 but not the anime prototypical squad of 3 (rick, max, ben). At the size of those models and bases, I think 6-9 should be the max for zentraedi (especially with the respawn mechanic they have) and 2-4 feels right personally for veritechs. Max and Miriya... Rick, Roy, and two redshirts in VF-1As.... Rick, Max, and Ben... those are all illegal combos that you can't field with what they posted unfortunately.

Also, what do you guys think of a catachan or hunter green zentraedi paint scheme? I'll likely go for that for all my zents as opposed to just the FPAs.

I am not sure this is too much of the slump, there seems to be a lot of issues on Amazon at the moment and getting pledges registered.

That said there is a lot going on to compete for everyones money at the moment and much as we would like to, we cannot back everything.

In some ways this might be a good thing as if funding had continued at the early rate then I feel that we would have seen a lot of wishful thinking stretches that would push back the release date. As others have mentioned I would prefer a solid core release on time and then if funded stagger some of the icing in early next year.

Competition is mainly to 'blame', but this one will be fine.

I know that right now, Robotech, Deadzone and Secret Weapons are all competing for dollars from my limited gaming budget!

The short form is you 'contribute' to the project and in return you get certain rewards.

It looks and feels a lot like you're preordering something but there are legal differences in that you're not a customer but a donor.

So there's more risk, but if people believe in the organizer and want the project to happen they'll pay.

400k hit! Artillery pods are now available as an add on (and we know some will go free to the higher boxes if we hit enough backers by the end), next goals are;

2200 backers (24 away as of posting), probably hit this tomorrow, perhaps tonight, adds a Phalanx and a Spartan to all Battlecry and higher tiers.

430k: 2 more destroids to every core game (so a combination of 4 Tomahawks and Defenders).

Indeed, that's a good reminder. One goal down and one more to go hopefully today. In order to motivate some pledging, I've linked the Macross saga intro with alternate music. Anyone still sporting a mullet who has air guitar within arm's reach is obligated to jam along.
