It was Japanese so it escaped a lot of the US restrictions that GI Joe etc had. So in this war people die, even major characters. Heck in the second episode the hero machine guns a Zentrati in the back. By the end of the show whole cities are being nuked from orbit. This is not sanitized.
The sound track is a bit overwrought and Lynn Minmei needs to be gagged (if not spaced) but all in all, still watchable.
If they made a figure of Minmei getting kicked out of a airlock, I would re-mortgage my house to fund this project. She needed to die a horrible horrible death.
Great looking models, looks like a fun game ( I hate IGOUGO games so squad activation like Force on Force, Tomorrows War appeal to me) and its Robotech whats not to love.
I can't wait for Super Dimensional Calvary Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada ( my fav of the three era's personally) models to come out eventually.

When I first saw this at nine, I was amazed at what they showed. The love theme isn't bad IMHO. It played great in the episode were earth is sol. Just like the video game I hope the jump strait to GCM bypassing SC. I get the felling if the next ks goes in order it could severely stall the next one.
Update: number of backers and funds has gon up since Europe no longer pays vat.
Edit: Any word on the unseens or should we start a new thread for it?

Unseen? They're in from the beginning. They're the destroids, pods, and valks the game started with.

Chop, chop!
I'm sure someone will chime in with it but the resolution didn't involve completely free shipping that some people were unrealistically clamoring for but at least they saved a bunch of fees and taxes for EU folks that would have been additional. Hopefully that will increase the relatively lackluster overnight (for the US) totals that have been only climbing 2-3k from midnight to 9 am EST.
EDIT: It seems that the news of the international shipping change has freed up some $70 early bird specials for those interested in getting their feet wet with a deal but not going all in for the $140 mark. There are two available right now.

I meant third party companies making models from all the macross series (ie valkyries at 1/285). In the same way other parties make space marine accessories or alternate models. Though it probably deserves its own thread. Is there any hope of Palladium Games getting access to Macross II? Those would make brilliant models to add on to the game at some point in the future.

1) Thats not what the term 'Unseen' means in relation to Macross.
2) It is highly unlikely HG/PG would ever be able to get the rights to another Macross Series.
3) Do not ask for people to violate copyright laws on Dakka.
It is however likely that you can find some gashapon/trade figures from the various Macross series in a scale near to the one Ninja Division is using.

Y'know if you're making (well translating) an anime where a MAJOR PLOT POINT is a pop singer whose music unifies the human race and causes vicious alien warriors to change their allegiance...
You might want to:
A - Hire a voice actress who can sing
B - Write more than 2 songs

Yeah.. I hated Minmei while watching Robotech, and loved her while watching Macross. I've still got a few of Mari Iijima's songs in my playlist...
I love how she called that her "new song" in about four or five different instances.
I prefer Lisa over Minmay hands down but I don't really get the hate. I think Minmay is a pretty deep character, too. Her naivetee strikes me as more of a choice (I guess psychologists call it "sublimation") than a flaw. I think she was trying to bury the feelings she had for Rick from the first few episodes because, well let's face it -- she knew they could die at any second. She even encouraged him to join the military when it was clear he was in puppy love with her. Just my take.
Anyway, I wonder if the whole music-as-a-weapon theme will come up in the table top game. It's a pretty huge aspect of the Macross saga and even sort of comes up again in the New Generation.

I prefer Exedore's cover of that tune personally. I hope they don't include music as a weapon in this unless it's somehow really simple (all zentraedi within "broadcast" weapon range of the speaker suffer negative command points).

Macross II had it. It was the Minmei defense that was used to stop rogue Zentradi fleets. It worked great until a Imperal Marduk fleet lead my Lord Ingues showed up....

Not really, they assumed that they had the rights, turns out they snuck the book out while HG was basically asleep at the wheel and they had to yank all those books from publication. HG only "owns" the parent rights to the original macross series. ( Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Diver aka Mospeda).
Because HG trademarked Macross in the US during early 80's Studio Nue/BigWest/Tatsukono can't bring in the later series even though they should own the rights. Harmony Gold basically stole the Macross trademark for the US due to a loophole in how it was registered when the Berne convention went into effect and ended up getting squatting rights on Macross permanantly even though they were only liscensed holders at the time.
Its one of the many difficulties with the series, the current chain of ownership is a complete joke and it should reside with Studio Nue who originally created the series and is still involved in putting out the newer series that they can't import due to HG's trademark squatting. The Japanese companies don't see a point in having to pay HG royalties for a trademark they effectively stole. That's why the Macross fans continue to lose out and the Robotech setting can't use any of the newer designs.
I'm not 100% certain but it's my understanding (from reading macross forums) that HG & Palladium likewise can't use any of the designs for the Do You Remember Love? (Macross the Movie) which includes variations of the male zentraedi power armor, green skin and elf ears look for the Zentraedi, and the armored strike veritech which has the dual lasers coming out of the fast pack booster.
I'm also curious how this will all play into international rights, I know that HG holds the robotech & macross trademarks in the US and Canada, however I'd be curious to see how that breaks down to countries in Europe or people buying items that might end up in Japan. It could trigger yet another rounds of international lawsuits over the rights to the franchise, but that's hardly anything new as they've had many lawyers slapping away at each other for close to 25 years at this point.
As for doing other models for Macross II or anything remotely affliated with Robotech I'll pass, I'd rather eat and poop out a broken bottle than deal with KS again.

I wish HG would c&d with this chokehold they have over macross. I'm glad HG brought it over to the US, but come its been over 20 yrs! We're all grown up. It's not like the fans won't be able to comprehend why changes were made back then. I don't think it's fair to fans such as myself and others around the world who feel the same. The original creators should not have to pay HG for something they had nothing to do with. I just wish HG would let it go already. Stop riding others coat tails.

What's "fair" doesn't matter. They're a company and therefore they'll only stop when either a concerted public outcry (unlikely... anime fans have the attention span of minmei) that affects current actual sales or a court of law forces them to stop. Since the companies in Japan have chosen not to sue again in the US, we're stuck with what we have... shadow chronicles. :( If 20 years of lost potential sales doesn't convince them to kiss and make up, nothing else will.

What does Clash of the Bionoids have to do with anything? That's the first that I've heard that HG owns the rights to that.
and Genesis Climber Mospeada is not a Macross series.
Sorry, what you said doesn't make sense so I'm trying to figure out if there's something I hadn't known about HG...
"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke
I've got blitzkrieg plus some add ones personally. When they add FPA then I'll bump up a bit more. After that, only macross terrain would likely get another bump as opposed to a shift of addons within the same amount.

Those form the material that is used for the expanded Robotech arcs 2 & 3, by mixing those series they with Macrss they created Southerncross arc and Mospeada arc which are part of the Robotech trilogy even though they have nothing to do with the original Japanese macross series. Palladium has said they'd expand the game to cover those arcs as well (once the macross arc if taken care of)

A 1/285 scale SDF-1 would be over 4 meters long, so I don't think it would be likely to appear . Now, a few autoguns/turrets so we can play ship assault scenarios would be cool!
