Are there any games that have cheap roughly 15mm mecha? I want to do a custom FoW alternate history campaign with a friend but I don't know of any good game systems to use. I'd like for them to be cheap but on average slightly bigger than a tank.

Wait a bit for Mecha Front to get off the ground.
The mechs are western mechs, so they would really fit the alternate WW2 look in drab military colours.

They aren't to take the place of WWII units, I want to paint them up as an invading aliens from an anime called Strike Witches.

GZG, Khurasan, and a few others have 15mm stuff that might be suitable.
15mm is their MAIN scale - their 28mm stuff is often their sideline.

Thanks, looks like I'll be diggin through here for a bit. Automatically Appended Next Post: But 15mm isn't a must, just mecha that looks appropriate next to FoW miniatures. The Robotech minis that are being made by Ninja Division look like they'd be great but I can't get them yet.

You want to look for 1/100 sacle Gundams and Mecha models in general.
Stay away from the Super-D style gundams-- they are the little smushed ones with the giant heads--to cartoonie for my taste.

In 15mm, you're almost always going to get the rules and the miniatures from separate companies. The companies that have been mentioned above for miniatures are really good options. You can get small mecha for less than 10 bucks each and big ones for around 20.
As mentioned, the game "Gruntz" is a good one. It's got some similar mechanics to Warmachine, but is a very flexible rules engine that can acommodate virtually any sci-fi combat.
http://www.gruntz.biz/
My preferred rules are "Mech Attack" which combines many Battletech'ish elements (modular weapons, damage grids, heat, etc) into a radically streamlined package.
http://www.wargamevault.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=3148
I use 10mm Mechwarrior miniatures for Mech Attack, but the rules are designed for 15mm.
If you want cheap Mecha, the cheapest are the 10mm "Mechwarrior" clix figures. The scale isn't 15mm, but the larger mechs look fine next to 15mm figs. Though OOP, they can often be had for just a few dollars each at places like Troll and Toad.

That depends on a few things...like the size of his other mechs and the "real" sizes of the ones in question. I have several 1/200 scale Robotech mechs and they match the Gruntz Imperator size nicely. If they were in 1/00 they would be far too large.

Way too small most likely. They are 1/285 scale and are going to be about the size of Battletech minis, so they would make light mechs or battle suits at best.
OP...I have some Plastic Soldier WWII Shermans, t34s and Tiger Is, Ill try to get a picture of them with my 15mm mecha and post it later today or Monday so you can get an idea of size.

If you want good quality metals, then the stuff Clockwork Goblin is hard to beat.
I have Mech attack and it is good but you may find the construction of the card pieces and their 2d/3d look a little offputting - but it is a real blast regardless.
You might want to try Lost Reich from Fat Dragon Games. Around $16 gets you the starter and two additional German mecha. Only basic but easier to assemble than mech attack. I use then in withthe Clockwork Goblin range.

That would be great, there are a lot more options than I had thought.
And I've been going through the forum for their kickstarter, and I think the robotech minis would be perfect. At least fo the most part. I plan on getting a bunch of them anyway (I planned on that before this idea occured)

Thanks for the size comparison shot Mad4minis!!
When I said 1/100 scale - it was a generality, the scale is "n" i think...
So some of those mechs out there are over a hundred feet tall in the story, so when we match them up they dont always look right. But for the most part, 1/100 is a good bet.

Don't forget to check out Heavy Gear for some very Front Mission/Votoms style mechs, and/or Dropzone Commander for some more geiger-esque mecha.

Assuming measurments from sole to eyeline:
1/100 is 15mm in gaming terms. It's not exactly right, but it's the convention that FOW and other companies have uses for some time.
1/100 is NOT N scale. If you want a "lettered" model railroad scale for terrain for 1/100, you're best bet is 1/87 or "HO" which will look pretty good alongside 1/100
1/160 is N. Scale. N Scale is also 10mm. 1/144 (11mm) is also fairly compatible with N scale and sometimes used interchangeably.
Just wanted to clear it up for you. There's quite a difference between N and 1/100. However, sometimes mecha can be used interchangeably. This is the case with many of the medium and larger mechs from the Mechwarrior clix game which are N scale, yet look pretty good in 1/100 as smaller mecha.
Here's a handy chart that might clear things up a bit.

Thanks for the info. My post was corrected regarding the Zeus..its N scale, so 10mm not 15mm. Makes sense as 10mm would make it about 44 feet tall, 15mm would make it 27 feet tall.

If you want something cheap you can do allot worse than EM4's Mech's.
They are bigger than 15mm and are priced at £2.50 for 5 Mechs! There are US stockists out there.

It's possible, but standing as they do between about 25 and 32mm tall, they really are more scaled to 6mm and aimed at Battletech style mechs. In 15mm, they are little larger than Hardsuits.
Though if you need some 15mm Hardsuits, you could do alot worse. I saw a dude mod a few up that way, but I can't seem to find the blog.
All that said, I do like the mechs and ordering strait from EM4 to the USA is still quite reasonable.
