On a side note, how would Daemons be rated on this, as they're pretty much all psychic energy.

We know that some daemons are so powerful that they can literally tear the universe a new one, while the really weak ones can be destroyed by any Emprah fanatic who shouts loud enough.

You have to assume then that Mag'ladroth - the dragon were aware of him then he chose his hiding place and it once again proves that all god like beings tend to ultimately die or loose not because they were out-powered by other god-like being, but because they were very arrogant in a first place.
On the other hand, it raises further questions about dragon's imprisonment and his trip to Mars with him. Also, it's said that this C'tan was a reason why adeptus mechanicus had formed meaning he was imprisoned long time before unification of Earth. That places Emperor in an interesting position: what the hell he was doing all that time?

My point is that this early fluff has a lot of holes in it and should be treated as a mere legends, tales for children. It's just lore's starting point that should not be seriously taken.

The Void Dragon predates humanity, and the Emperor. It landed on Earth before the War in Heaven was even over. It didn't know the Emperor was there because the Emperor was not born yet.

And yet that raises even more questions...

Death Guard = 728 (PL 41) and Space Marines = 831 (PL 50)
Slaanesh demons = 460
Khorne demons = 420
Nighthaunts = 840 points Stormcast Eternals = 880 points.

What it was doing all that time and why it couldn't, say, go consume the sun.

It was sleeping.

It couldn't leave Earth because it was too weak.

1) He was strong enough to travel all way to earth and hide there, but he couldn't go little extra to our sun to eat her? Or to any star in that case.
2) He were resting for a very long time. Humanity evolved around him and yet he didn't tryed to enslave us. By that point they already knew how tasty worshiping is compared to stars energies. In lore, an individual entity can juice up quite fast by worship. Now add all that time of worship and his feeding on our sun and he should have recovered a lot faster than he did.
3) He needed an extremely long time to recover. If whose sacrifices are so poor, why he didn't went for our sun at first opportunity? Also, if sleeping does near nothing to help you to recover then why even bother? You will probably be doomed then you will be found anyway. It's better just gamble and go for a nearest sun.
4) Why he hesitated eating psykers? The ones who was a threat to him. Emperor should have been attacked by him in his youth, not the other way around.
5) Void dragon is told to had laid foundation to Adeptus Mechanicus. If his own aura passively does that, then why Mars and not Terra evolved a way they it did?
6) Once again, how Emperor managed to imprison him? Such beings simply cannot be putted in any ordinary jail and great skill and power is required to forge his labyrinth. Emperor maybe had sufficient power, but certainly not skill and knowledge how to do that.
7) If Emperor barely managed to defeat him then The Dragon was already strong enough to fly away from this planet and to consume our sun. Just ignore challenge and leave him impotent while you grow. In any way, accepting challenges like that shows only your arrogance.

In Dan Abnett's Ravenor series (I think that's the one, might be Eissenhorn, I'm a bit sketchy on the two, they all seem to blur into one for me) a bunch of Alpha-Class psykers get loose in a city, and one of them (holed up in a governor's mansion) mind-controlls the entire population of the city for miles around him to fight the Adeptus Arbites and Imperial Guard, so they're pretty damn powerful.. And one of the other psykers managed to mind -control Eissenhorn (a Gamma-minus class psyker, who has a field of anti-super-psykerness around him) and make him shoot a Space Marine, another example of how powerful these guys are..
