THE TABLE :




THE OBJECTIVES:
The obs are on large bases.







I win the roll off and choose to deploy and go first. There is no nightfighting

My deployment ( In reserves Belial + deathwing deploying via DW assault)





Nids deployment (Doom and carnifex in reserve and swarmlord is outflanking)


His large genestealer brood infiltrate.

He does not seize.

Overview of the battlefield

Deathwing turn 1.

Belials squad land front and centre ready to move where they are needed. DW squad 2 deepstrike middle left near the far left objective and scatter a little. The tac squad near the stealers move to get into rapid fire range. Typhoons move to get into range of the stealers aswell.


Shooting. The far right Razorback shoots at the genes and kills one. The other razorback does the same vs the Hive guard but cover is made. The tac squads/Typhoons and both termie squads fire on the genestealers and manage to kill about 13 and the broodlord. The devastators shoot at the hiveguard and kill one. I turbo boots the Darkshroud out in front of my typhoons not knowing that hive guard ignore cover :(

Tyranids turn 1
Troops all move to my right hoping to overload that flank and secure the two objectives near them. Gaunts squads and attached prime run. The hive guard moves out of LOS and shoots the darkshroud but fails to pen.

The stealers assault the 5 man tac squad. I do get 3 overwatch hits but fail to wound. I then fail to wound at initiative 4 (they charged through cover) and the stealers wipe the marines. First blood to the tyranids.



DW TURN 2

I move Belials squad back a little. The typhoons move to get a shot on the genestealers in the ruins through the front door. The termies move to get into range of the gribble squad without the prime. The white razorback moves back waiting for the reserves to show. Other razorback moves next to belials squad


Shooting: Typhoons pound the stealers reducing them to one model. I then shoot belials squad + tac squad + razorback into the primes squad and kill 4 or 5. The devs and the left DW shoot the other gribbles and kill about 7 or so (Waste of lascannons I know)


Nids turn 2.

Swarmy and the doom arrive but the carnifex stays in reserve.


The lone genestealer hides in the ruins. The two gant squads move around a little. The swarmlord with his re-roll outflanking ability comes in on my side (gulp) and runs to get into cover. The doom lands between the two central right ruins and is 6 inches from the devs/belials squad AND the tac squad (gulp gulp gulp)



The hive guard does his shooting round corners routine and stuns the darkshroud. The doom starts sucking souls.. Belial takes a wound. the devs lose a lascannon and the tac squad is reduced to 3.


DW Turn 3

The tac squad jumps into the razorback to escape the doom. The typhoons move up to get a shot on the doom. Belial's squad moves up into charge range of the Prime's unit. The front razorback with tac squad moves up 6 ( Dumb move on my part. I should have moved 12 and the gone flat out to escape the swarmlord but instead i decide to shoot the doom) The devs move out of the ruin and are unable to get away from the doom


Shooting. The typhoons ends the dooms reign of terror after lazback fails to kill it. Belials squad attempt to split fire so then can shoot the swarmy and the termies in front of them but fail. They do kill 4 or 5 gaunts tho. The other DW squad fire at the swarmy but fail to wound. The backfield razorback puts a wound on the tyrant guard. The devs run after passing their soul leaching test.


Belials squad charges the gants. The DW sarge challenges the tyranid prime and is sliced and diced. The gants fail to wound the deathwing and are then wiped out. The prime now alone fails his leadership and flees a mighty 4 inches. Belials squad consolidate back (another mistake, I didnt realise that the prime would be unable to assault after he auto regroups. I should have moved right up into his grill)


Nids turn 3

The carnifex comes in and lands of the 2nd floor objective close to my table edge. Swarmy gives himself iron arm (T9) and endurance and also gives preffered enemy to the carnifex. The prime autoregroups and joins the other gaun squad.

The hive guard smashes the Darkshroud. Then the carnifex destroys two landspeeders. Swarmy charges the razorback with predictable results. The missile launcher marine dies in the explosion and the last two tacs are pinned in the wreckage.



DW turn 4

I move Belials squad up to shoot and charge the Primes unit again. The typhoon moves up to get a shot on the lone genestealer. The other deathwing squad move closer to the left side objective. I completely forget about my last razorback.

Between the typhoon and split fireing belials squad I kill the pesky genestealer (shakes fist) The devs kill the tyrant gaurd and wound swarmy.

Belials unit assaults and Belial eats a wound from overwatch (1 left) I have to send Belial into challenge the prime. He manages to get one wound onto Belial and I fail my 3+ inv. The rest of the squad kill some gaunts but 3 still remain meaning that the unit is still fearless.


Nids 4

Swarmy towers infront of the two tacs and lips his lips (if he has lips) The hive guard moves to shoot and assault my remaining speeder. Fex stays where he is.

Hive guard misses the speeder. Fex plasters three lascannon devs leaving the sarge (dumb placement by me)

Swarmy assaults the tacs (I hit with krak grenade overwatch AND WOUND but he makes his save, I then hit and wound with BOTH krak nades in combat but he makes his save) i remove the tacs. Swarmy consolidates towards the termie combat.

The termies kill the remaning gaunts but lose one of their own. The prime passes his ld test


DA 5

I shoot all I can at the swarmlord but can only take one wound (2 left) I also forget about my last razorback which could have really helped.

Assault and the prime causes two wounds. My thunder hammer fails his first 3+ then the powerfist fails his 5+.


Nids turn 5

General advance towards me. Hive guard imoblises my typhoon and the fex kills one termie.


I roll a one for turn 6 and the game ends.

I have one obj for 3 points and nids have first blood/ warlord and the pod is giving him linebreak for a tie.

Really fun game and a serious blood bath. Comments on tactics and mistake you may have thought I made are welcome. Hope you enjoyed reading as much as we enjoyed playing!

One thing, the prime and gants that assaulted the Deathwing, the Prime is a Synapse creature and so can never fall back, as he's fearless. Good report though!

oh thanks for that. I dont know if it would have made a huge difference. The prime would still be locked in combat and probably would have challenged Belial and I would have declined. Not sure if 4 deathwing termies would have been able to kill him. Only had 1 thunderhammer storm shield left.

Spirit Leech is the first thing that happens in your shooting phase. So before you're able to shoot the Doom, it will get a chance to suck the souls out of the Devs.

Yes we played it correctly, I just didn't write it correctly. The devs passed their test before running

The Nid player should have infiltrated his stealers further up behind that LOS blocking bit of terrain in the pic of their deployment. It looks like he could have had them all out of LOS and then they could have been withing 12 inches of the DA. As DA went first, the Stealers could have assaulted first turn.

Would that deployment have been possible? It looks like it might have been, in the pic.

Maybe it wasn't clear but that is exactly what he did =) He got first blood first turn by assaulting the tacs

Sadly infiltration both gives and takes away. If you choose to use Infiltrate, one can not then assault in the first turn. It's this rule alone that curbs Genestealers one main function.

I thought this only applies if you go first in the first turn not second.
