This topic will be on who your opponents/teammates are when having your games.

So the other day I went in to have my average gw game and there were about 4 kids under 12 years old, now I really shouldn't be complaining considering I'm 14 myself but THESE KIDS. They were kids who didn't know what to do and I was on their team. It was frustrating as the game took like 3 and a half hours. For example, right so I need 4 to wound your ork warboss, and the kid says lemme just check that.... Forgoes same boy most of us have played orks and played WH for about 2 years we know what we're doing. And I know its not bad to learn and check ules but they're just too young to play. When I started and really got into it at about 10 years old I was reading through the rule book and my codex so I didn't get yelled at by the older players. So what I'm asking is what can I do about this or how can I deal with this? Its always me on their team and you can't tell them to leave or ask the staff running to game to swap teams they'll just say too badddddddddd. I might as well stop going in.

You fool me once I'm mad.
You fool me twice, I don't really like you.
You fool me three times, your officially that guy.

Stop being a hypocrite?

You started at the same age these guys are. The only difference is you absorbed the rules by yourself at home, while these people are absorbing them while playing.

Guess what? Not everyone learns by reading the mechanics. Personally, I'm 29, and I learn any new system by playing. I can sit there and read a rule book for weeks and still not put it together until I play it.

So, basically, suck it up. You're playing with guys who are barely younger than you, who probably learn a different way. Either don't play them at all - move on and play people your own age (you basically are anyway), or just stick with it and let them learn while playing.

As for too young? when I started I was playing 2nd ed 40k and Titan Legions when I was 8. Age has nothing to do with this hobby.

What he said, but you should have embraced the opportunity to help these kids. You may break the mold on the kids stereotype, but most adults will avoid games with your age category. More young people with the know-how to play right and competitively the better.

Calling a 14 year old an hypocrite when he probably understand the word but not necessarily the concept is a little harsh don't you think?

On the other hand Sabreguy, he makes a strong point. You are 14 now, they are 12. In two years they will be your age now. In 10 years, you will look back and think how silly this is as you are now 24 and they are 22 and all laugh together in front of a beer.

You have two options.

1. Be patient. Take them under your wing and show them the ropes. You never know, they may become good friends that may last for the rest of your life.

2. Talk to the staff. Don't make the assumption that they will always put you to play with them. If you make a reasonable and mature argument explaining you're fine playing with them, but would like new challenges once in awhile or play on a different team then there is no reason for them not to grant you that.

Neither of the option above is better. They are both good in their own way and what's most important is to make a decision, stick by it and be a gentleman along the way.

TBH, you sound a bit on the less than mature side yourself... You're gonna have some gakky games before you turn twenty man, no way to stop that. No one here can give you the magic card to avoid it, and you wont find it in the store either.

You can however mitigate it; Ask to play them one at a time next time your around rather than in a four way team game. Then scale the game down to a small points level so you don't feel protracted pains via frustration. Third (and this is a secret that has served me well) start your games by offering to buy the other dude a cola. I cannot tell you how many times a dollar can of coke has turned what would have been a gak-fest, argument punctuated, rules looking up game into a friendly game where disagreements are solved based on what would make the game cooler rather than proper.

Wait, so you're 2 years older than these kids? You're still well within their age range.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

This sounds like the best idea for all concerned.

Edit: I missed the part about you being 14. I was reading this as an adult refusing to help kids learn the game, which is just awful behavior. I remember well how kids just slightly younger than you always seem annoying and embarrassing to hang around with. I think the best thing you could do is just try to be patient. Don't try to be the authority just because you're two years older. Remind them (in a nice way) that you've been playing for a while, but if they want to check a rule, that's actually a good habit to encourage, since there are players who will lie about the rules to get an advantage. Also remember that not everybody learns things the same way. Some people can learn the stats by hearing them, but other people need to see it written down for it to stick in their mind.

Okay, so I gan give an informed opinion, how many games have you played teamed up with these guys? If your complaining after the first couple of games then I'd really have to agree with the majority of posters on this thread. Your not giving them a fair chance to learn. But if your into your 20th game with them, and they are still needing to stop and look up the rules with every thrid action... I would start with speaking with the TO. It's one thing to be impatient with someone who is just starting out in the hobby, but if I was playing with someone that SHOULD have a basic understanding of the game and is still stalling out the games I'm in I would be a little upset.
