So recently I was in a Michaels (a US craft store that leans more towards the scrapbooking/floral side of things) to pick up some brushes, and walking through an aisle, I discovered an a large selection of unpainted wooden birdhouses in various unconventional styles, such as a trio of brownstone houses, a church, a cottage, and even a castle tower. These things were perfect scale for Warhammer or 40K, were fairly basic, but many had doors that opened/closed. The only way I knew they were birdhouses was the small peg situated in front of some of the windows and doors.

Intrigued, I checked out the price. Most were $4.99 USD, with the larger houses $9.99. I snagged one of the castle towers and painted it up, and I have to say, its quite nice. A decent sized piece of terrain that is both easy to paint and very very sturdy (and even has its own base). Even better, Michaels website often has 40% off coupons so I can snag a couple of the brownstone houses for cheap.

Below is the finished castle tower:

I've seen the birdhouses in places like Michaels or Hobby Lobby, but never seen ones that were the right scale for 40k. This one looks good though! I'll have to keep my eye out.

This was the first time I've seen any that were close to being the right scale. Some of ones at Michaels were still off, but they had several that fit perfectly.

I have the same one, if you push hard, or hammer gently, you can pop off that top mini tower and have enough room for 10 models. It's just glued on.
