Subject: Rotten red?

Sinister Chaos Marine

The main color of my Chaos Space Marine army is red and Black. I just got me a unit of Plague Marines, and I don't want to change my color scheme, but I still want to show their Nurgliness with decaying armor. My plan was to use the same red as the rest of the army as base, but rotting it up somewhat. My problem is I don't have a clue how to do that...
Any suggestions on how to make red look rotten/decayed?

A more brownish red? If your red is a shiny and lively red, I don't see it as a good Plague Marines colour .
Then again, it's your fluff. They can be Plague Marines with a lot of respect for their armor and do their best or have slaves for the maintenance.

I think the easiest way would be to base paint your army red,
Heavy chipping around places that would see heavy ware, like shoulder pads, knee pads etc, then heavy was them with brown in general, blacks in recesses, and greens in random(or specific areas like exhaust and seams)

There's always the patches of rust avenue; some verdigris areas to compliment the theme perhaps? That way you could keep the red and still have a decaying look to the armour.

I think I'll try this.
I thought about the rust approach as well, but I think it might be too much reddish in red...
