I got 10 GK as allies for my marines, with;
3x Nemesis Halberds
1x Nemesis Sword
2x Falchions
2x Incinerators
1x Nemesis Daemon Hammer
1x Justicar with a Warding Stave

And now I need an HQ choice for them. Considering I'm going to be charging these guys forwards in a GK Land Raider Redeemer next to my Crusader filled with Assault Terminators and Lysander, I was thinking maybe Castellan Crowe or a Brotherhood Captain, but does anyone else have a better idea?

(I do 2-5k point battles often with friends who collect Chaos, Tyranids, Dark Eldar and SM, hence the point heavy choices)

Thanks in advance.

Ordo mallius inquisitor. It's gonna come to about 100 points, with terminator armour and a psycannon. Super cheap to save you wasting points on a character you can't use. (Draigo not worth it without paladins, grand master not worth it without more thing's in your allies to make scoring, e.x)

An extra psycannon and terminator for 100ish points? Perfect.

Ummm Coteaz super good for 100 points. We've been expecting you w/ 2 Div powers for 100 points and you can add cheap henchmen if you want.

For the record, Crowe is an awful ally choice because he's not an IC and you're not taking full advantage of unlocking purifiers as troops. A Brotherhood Champion is a tolerable increase in combat power. For shooting purposes, some kind of Malleus inquisitor is good. Coteaz powers are quite strong if he's hanging with a shooting unit and the generic inquisitor can bring a divination power and an extra deep-striking relentless psycannon for 110.

Since you're just running up and charging at people rather than making use of the shooting strength, you might as well just take a brotherhood champion.

I would go with Coteaz, he is a steal for what he does and he also allows you to run henchman Squads as troops. Using him at the moment to run a full army of Warrior Acolytes, backed up with Razorbacks and Dreadknights.

If it's a power armour GK squad, in a land raider as an assault unit, I'd just take a brotherhood champion.

coteaz,

not even a close choice,

take coteaz and never look back, 2 power rolls, artificer armour, daemon hammer, his special rules, acess to henchmen, spy net work....

seriously, hes the most auto take thing in codex GK,

do NOT put a termie in with non termies if you expect them to assault,

you want to still be able to sweeping advance

I would also suggest Coteaz. No real competition there.

I don't play grey knights, but would a librarian be a good choice? At least in codex: space marines, they are awesome, and can help out anyone. Is this not true in grey knights or are they too expensive?

Grey Knight Librarians always wear Terminator armour and they are expensive once you buy a decent power list. They aren't the best choice for a cheap efficient allied HQ, especially if you're sticking it in an assault unit.

Got it. Didn't know they automatically get terminator armor. Yeah that's definitely a bummer if they are rolling with Power armor guys.

I've got Tigurius in my army, purely for a 48" teleport on the first turn, with my terminators, to rain down hell on the nearest enemy warlord (Has never failed me yet).

And from reading the comments, Ill probably get a GK champion, however I'll go into GW next Monday to read up on Coteaz.

Thanks for the replies

If you are looking for a HQ to ally to a close combat unit, then the best option would be a Xeno Inquisitor with Rad grenades and Divination. Re-rolls to hit, -1 Toughness for the enemy. It is a very powerful set of combat buffs in a very cheap package.

That being said, you are going to be rather sad trying run a Strike Squad as a close combat unit in a Land Raider. it is not really the best choice. Strike squads are only okay in combat for their points. They only have 1 attack each, WS1 and INT4. Yes they have S5 and AP3, but the lack of attacks makes them falter against a lot of targets.

I would take GK Strike Squad 0maybe in a Rhino if you are running a mech list) as a mostly shooting unit with some backup close combat power.

If you want more assault oriented GK then purifiers are the way to go. (though even they are a bit lackluster for their points as a "pure assault" unit).

What's the difference between Purifiers and a Strike squad? I only saw Strike squad in the troops section the last time I was in GW, and unfortunately I do not own a GK codex as of yet.

The former has access to the cleansing flame power.

Space Wolves: 3770
Orks: 3000
Chaos Daemons: 1750
Warriors of Chaos: 2000

Purifiers are an elite choice instead of a troop choice.

Strike squads have 1 attack each. Purifiers have 2

Strike squasd have very expensive upgrades for their nemesis weapons, Purifiers have very cheap upgrades for nemesis weapons.

A Strike squad dude with a halberd in 25 points. A Purifier with a Halberd is 26 points.

1 point more and you are fearless, have an extra attack and have a rather powerful psychic power for combat as well.

That being said, if you want a very powerful GK unit to put in a Land Raider, then you should really be looking at henchmen. A Deathcult Assassin + Crusader unit is very strong.

with Coteaz as an HQ they are troops.

15 pts a model, 150 total.
5 dudes with WS 5, 3-4 attacks each at S4 AP3 INT6 or S5 AP2 INT1. 5++ inv save
5 dudes with WS4, 1-2 attacks at S4 AP2. 3++ inv save

re-roll to hit from Coteaz joined to the unit means that this unit will usually wreck anything they touch. It is very inexpensive for the amount damage they put out.

And are an elite choice, unless unlocked by Crowe.

Coteaz, always Coteaz as an allied HQ.

I've been expecting you (That you will probably never use)

2 Div powers (He rocks with Prescience and either Precognition, Perfect timing, Misfortune or Forewarning (against some armies) These powers alone have won me games).

Totally worth the points and you can add cheap henchmen if you want.

You'll prob never use use I've been expecting you? Dang I use it all the time. One guy even outflanked and forgot about it. I love it.

Try different HQs but you'll prob like Coteaz.

The Rad Psycho grenade Inq is good if you can get into melee. Is that the inq that can take 2 Needle pistols? 2 Shots at ap 2 and wounding at 2+ is good stuff.

Yea, see I play with opponents who never forget about it, so they are never entering within 12 inches of Coteaz. Therefore I never use it.

If they never go 12" from him that doesn't mean you're not using it. It means you're forcing them to avoid it. You're still using it.

I need to return some video tapes.
