In the Chaos Wastes, Killing the Chaos scum of the north

Well, I'm new to legion and was wondering, after the 2 person box, the shepherd, and the Warspear Chieftain (which is optional in my lists), what should be the next thing I should buy?

I was thinking of maybe an angelius for plylth and angelius assassination runs so he will probably be my next beast.
Also, Carnivean assault charge, how does it work in terms of the spray?

Also, against circle from 2 person box what should I be wary of?

The other side of the internet

If you want to run pLylyth, there's tons of options you can pick from. I would probably look into your ranged options as archers, striders and the cav are all very nice imo. A scythean is a rather nice melee beast to have. Angelius works well with your parasite spell. Seraph is nice for repositioning and getting your butt out of combat. The seraph's crit poison also benefits from your feat.

Carnivean spray functions just like a spray during it's assault attack. You target the spray just as normal and place the template and it hits as normal. It is only RAT 4 so it's not as devastating as it may seem.

for carnie assault, you move the charge distance, then make the spray attack on the target you charged, even if you failed to get into melee range.
If you kill the target with the spray and are in melee range of something else, you can beat that up with all your initial attacks, but none of them are the charge (boosted) attack

As for your next purchases, since you are just starting, I would be looking for things that are good with plylyth, but also fexible with other casters
-You can't go wrong with magnetizing a heavy beast kit, all 3 beasts are great, most casters you will run 1 carnie, and 1 sythean or ravagore
-if you're getting more beasts, a shepard or forsaken is a good choice to round out points and help support all that extra fury, if you dont like either of these a feralgeist is a strong option for rounding out your list for 1pt.
- 2x deathstalkers are solid anti-infantry options that a lot of lists use instead of striders/archers
-consider getting the deck of cards if you dont have the codex, you lose out on a few cards *cough sythean* but then you can play some stand-ins and figure out what you want, don't go too crazy with standins but it's nice to try things out
-once you graduate to scenario's, legionaries (no ua) and/or hex hunters are taken in a lot of lists. but are currently expensive and metal.

stay away from:
-if you want ranged infantry, stay away from archers, instead go striders+ua they are almost as good with all casters, and more flexible
-stay away from stinger/harrier until you have a spawning vat
-proteus, he's situational and generally considered not the greatest for his points
-no grotesques, ever
-incubi after you get kallus, not before
-I dont like scather crews either.

I feel I should clarify
If you assault, reach your target in melee range, and then kill him with the spray attack - then you get to use your initials on someone else
If you assault, and DO NOT reach your intended target in melee range, but still kill him with the spray - you DO NOT get your initials on someone else
