So with the suggestion of some friends i have decided to start playing Skorne, but i have no idea where to start and i dont feel like getting the starter, i was curious if anyone could lead me to a good start-up article or throw me some cliff notes while i wait for my army book to come in. Sorry if i come off lazy but with school and my lady i need all the shortcuts i can get. Lol

Thanks

First off, join the PP forums. Or at least lurk about. http://privateerpressforums.com/forum.php

To start off with I would buy the Battlebox. That will get you pMorghoul, a Gladiator, and 2 Savages. pMorghoul is a pretty nice beast orientated warcaster who can manage more beasts than his 5 fury stat will tell you.

The Titan Gladiator is the bread and butter of the Skorne army.

The Savages aren't as useful but good starter beasts with an amazing animus.

After this you will want to get a unit of Paingiver Beast Handlers, Bronzeback Titan, and an Agonizer.

The PGBH are the "auto-include" for Skorne. They improve the utility of your beasts, allowing you to run more than you normally could.

The Bronzeback is the best Warbeast out there. Its an amazing package of face smashing. If something is in charge range of a Bronzeback, it is in deep trouble. No other Beast or Jack can hit as hard as a buffed up Bronzeback.

The Agonizer is another amazing solo. It can act as a Fury bank for your warlock, storing Fury in case you have lost most of your beasts. But it also has 3 nice abilities, 2 are only good against Hordes and only 1 can effect Warjacks, but dang is it nasty to jacks. Synergizes very well with Morghoul's feat, its basically a turn of your opponent doing nothing with his Jacks/Beasts or his Warcaster/lock.

Most common units you will see in Skorne
Gladiator
Pain Giver Beast Handler
Nihilators

These 3 are probably in like 70% of lists and are safe buys

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Indeed, you really want a Titan Gladiator in the list to get its Animus as well.

For a 15 point list try,

Master Tormentor Morgul
Titan Gladiator
Cyclops Savage
Cyclops Savage
Praetorian Karax

Which is basically the battle box plus a unit of Karax. Then when you want to up to 25 points use the same list and just add a Bronzeback Titan.

My 15 point list is PMorghoul, Bronzeback, Gladiator, min unit of PGBH, and an Agonizer.

Just a note--you'll see a lot of people talking up Molik Karn as one of the best things in Skorne. And he is, but he's hard to use to full effect until you understand the rules well, so I'd hold off on getting him initially.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."

You're missing PGBH.

Why pMorghoul ? I was thinking PHexeris

The main reason is probably that Morghoul is a good beast warlock, especially supported by PGBH. A Bronzeback can have an 11" charge and hit at P+S21 with Beatback.

The magic formula is Enrage+Abuse+Rush, then before the Bronzeback swings its charge attack you have it cast its Animus. Not much survives getting hit by that.

Lets take that Bronzeback hitting a Stormwall with Arcane Shield up. The BB hits on 3s and damage is dice minus 1. Charge attack does an average of 9 damage, second fist does 6 damage, Smash and Grab give you a headbutt for 5 damage, and then a tusk attack for 5 damage. That's an average of 25 damage without having to force.

Hexeris is a good caster but he's not quite as newbie friendly as Morghoul. But if you like him go ahead and get him, always play what you like.

15 Points, I personally enjoy using something along the lines of

Xerxis
Archidon (or Bronzeback without Tyrant Commander)
Min Arcuarii
Min Incindiarii
Tyrant Commander

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Its versatile

2 Heavy Infantry squads allow me to spread my troops around to capture objectives, Arcuarii can deal very well with enemy heavy troops, and medium beasts. When pressured Arcuarii can charge enemy heavies, usually destroy them with Fury. Using Fury and Feat, They could probably scrap a colossal too.

Incindiarii is amazing at clearing out any infantry spam based lists, and they are essentially always infront of Xerxis

Archidon ability to fly over things is nice, and his ability to grant Sprint allows Xerxis to charge in and be able to escape after charging, Xerxis himself being an absolute demon in combat

The battlebox is a good start, although you will rarely need 2 Savages.

You rarely want one. Their animus is their only saving grace. I tend avoid them like the plague if I can.

If you plan on eHexy, I'm not sure the battlebox will be that great for you. You need a warbeast that you feel good about using to channel via warbeast bond. He is primarily an assassin with his PoW 14 spell and feat allowing him to cast it 4 times in one turn or using the 14 fury to rip a warcaster apart. Anything that helps this along or covers other weaknesses is great. Bronzeback for the smash and grab to knockdown key targets or beat them out of the way. Titan gladiators to slam targets out of his assassination path. Titan Sentrys to keep him safe via locker. A cyclops savage is really only going to be there to cast his animus on whoever really needs to do their job that turn. So really, a battle box is just going to net you a gladiator which you can get cheaper by grabbing a warbeast pack.

As far as the battlebox is concerned

If you would use Gladiator, You should probably buy at least 1 battle box

because for only $10 more you get another Caster and 2 Light Beasts (JUST IN CASE)

Can't find a better deal than that
