Alright Dakka, I need some wisdom. I'm new to 40k and haven't rolled dice in this edition.

I intend on playing a 'pure' Death Guard army. The problem is I can't seem to decide on a Heavy Support work-horse. I know Nurgle marked Obliterators are commonly espoused, and Predators are (for the points) efficient. I've considered allying in Demons in order to access a GUO, 10 Plaguebearers (as rear objective holders), and a Soul Grinder, but is that enough heavy fire support? I've also considered Forgefiends/Maulerfiends, but without being able to play-test them, I have no firsthand knowledge of their reputation on the battlefield.

Roughly speaking, I plan on using a unit of 7 Bikes w/Lord, 2 Helldrakes, 30 Plague Marines. I'm also considering dropping a Helldrake for a unit of 5 MoN Spawn.

Silly question, what's the down side of having a MoN Sorcerer as your Warlord, as opposed to a Chaos Lord? Can Chaos effectively try a psyker heavy force under Nurgle?

While durable, I'm worried that I lack real knock-out power.

Thanks in advance for any and all guidance.

With a sorceror, you cant have plague marines as troops.

Either take MON bikes or spawn, not both. Bikes are better as they are more survivable and can shoot. Take as many helldrakes as you can for some anti air and anti troop coverage.

In regards to the heavy support, I was thinking same, although instead of a soul grinder, I would get a deamon prince of nurgle. Since you are getting a GUO, you can take nurgle princes as a heavy support slot.

This also make it more to the fluff as most things in the heavy slots are geared towards dark mechanicam/standard chaos and can still be competitive. This is not to say the heavy options are bad.

Roger that!

I'll stand-up a Lord, then...

If you want a sorceror, you could get a daemon prince and give mastery levels, more expensive but can certainly destroy things.
