So I'm going to be playing a 2 vs.2 game this Saturday at a low points of I think 1500 points and want to know what you guys would think would be more helpful.

Chosen squad with 5 plasma guns
or
Havok Squad with 4 lascannons

It'll be me and another guy with Chaos that comes in the starter box with the small rulebook. I don't know what all comes in that besides cultist and a dreadnaught or how many points it adds up to.

I have:
Typhus, lots of zombies, 3 havok squads (that can have any weapon due to magnets!) and 3 chosen squads with plasma guns.

So I'm thinking..
Typhus - ###pts (didn't want to break forum rules)
30 zombies - 130pts
30 zombies - 130pts
30 zombies - 130pts

Havok squad w/lascannons - 155pts (correct me if i'm wrong, from memory)
Chosen squad w/5 plasma guns - 165 (again correct me if i'm wrong)
Total 940pts.

Now depending on how many points the starter box chaos is this might be all I can take. Would any of you keep it like this or try and go 2 Chosen or 2 Havok squads? Any upgrades you find useful like VotlW or melta bombs on Chosen? Let me know.

Personally I think you get more value from the Havocs.
I used to always run a 6 plasma (1 combi on the champion) Chosen squad that outflanked (with a Slaanesh lord on a steed) but it seemed that I'd get one shot off then get wiped out.

I've switched more recently to a 4 lascannon Havoc squad which I think is a fair bit cheaper and seems to be more survivable because of the longer range. It also helps that in Big Guns they are scoring.

True I think I agree with you there on the Havoks even though my 2 squads of lascannon Havoks failed to kill a single Chimera until turn 5 :p my chosen keeps "Gets Hotting" themselves and I think I lost 5 in total in the one game I played with them. haha

4 Havocs with 4 AC + Champ on Quad Gun (ADL) is generally the most used configuration for them nowadays, IIRC. 215p. You can put more Havocs as ablative wounds (maybe 2-3), in front of the AC-equipped ones.

Chosen are too frail, I'm afraid.

Thanks! The autocannon Havoks were very nice and popped both his chimera early in the game.

Yep AC havocs every time you can, but MLs are good too. I really hate chosen now that they lost infiltrate. They used to be a mandatory for me, but man they just are overcosted and havocs outperformed them. I turned my into aspiring champions.

Yeah I'm liking the havoks. My chosen are mostly deepstrike defense with their plasma guns.

Oh funny thing, in this game Typhus won a challenge and turned into a deamon prince :p normally a pretty good thing but when typhus drops his deamon weapon and bursts out of his terminator armor and loses his psychic powers becoming a box standard prince (with mark of nurgle) then later gets killed from a few slugga boyz because I only got a 5+ invul haha what a turn of events!

Yeah, the daemon prince roll is terrible. I wish they could at LEAST keep their marks. You're almost better off with a spawn than a standard daemon prince.

if we could use drop pods... chosen would be beyond sick. and I'd run 2-3 pods of them to just blow stuff up. But... Alas. No. (Don't even get me started on the dreadclaw, it's not a real drop pod)

No but at least a dreadclaw would be better to have as a transport than relying on Rhinoes or crazypricey land raiders.

On topic: I join the choir that sings the havocs praise. I usually run an AC squad of them on a bastion with quadgun (using the Imperial bunker from the Wall of Martyrs set as a standin bastion), and they usually performs really well. I wouldn't go lascannons on them tho.

Yeah I fight a unit of autocannon havoks in a bastion quite often. it's nasty. I agree about the drop pods too, a unit of chosen in a pod could be our version of death company or what have you.

Autocannon havocs in a bastion with quad gun. Place an objective close to and behind the bastion (place the bastion in front of an objective... ...anyway) put 10 custists in the bastion manning the heavy bolters. Quietly claim a protected objective.

Yeah just remember to disembark them on your last turn. Can't claim objectives whilst embarked in a vehicle, which the bastion counts as.

I usually have a 5 man squad of csm with a plasmagun manning the heavy bolters. As my standin bastion have all its heavy bolters facing forward it adds in a nasty punch with a little ap2.
I do however always check with my opponent to make sure he accepts the extreme cheesyness that is 4 forward facing heavy bolters. So far no objections

@Inigo Montoya - that is exactly what he does with his. I started using hell hounds and flat outing my flamer pcs up to it to burn them out.

Whats wrong with lascannon Havocs? Autocannon are obviously a solid choice but I find that lascannon are also good, just more specalised.

My own CSM list has its heavy slots filled with Havoc squads and there isn't a chosen in sight and I don't miss them. Its a shame really as chosen could have been an interesting unit.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Because Lascannons have 1 shot each... AC have 2. Even with Prescience, AC get the upper hand by sheer number of shots.

Unless you know you'll face strong armor, AC do the job quite well

It's a pity Chosen are so rarely chosen. Why they don't come with VotlW as standard seems strange to me. That said you can get some mileage by keeping them back as insurance against Terminator DS, not the best choice for that job but not terrible.

I usually use 3 squads with lascannons but at the low points level I was playing in reguards to the original post lascannons were useless. With BS4 I'm not afriad of using single shot lascannons. (I play guard, I'm used to missing.)
