So, I've been on a gin kick recently, and along with it I've discovered the world of classic cocktails. My question to you is, what is your favorite cocktail, of any variety? Any concoctions of your own invention?

Personally, I've found myself enjoying aviations most recently, but it's hard to find a place that makes good ones and most people, I've found, don't make it with creme de violette. I find this to be quite a bummer. I don't think the creme de violette particularly adds to or detracts from the drink taste-wise, but it looks damn cool.

So, dakka, what's your poison?

Cocktails you say? Nah, I prefer my drinks unadulterated, any spirit with a few cubes of ice by itself is good enough for me thanks.

Gin martinis. Given the choice, I take them with a twist, rather then the olive, but am not that fussy. I prefer a milder gin, like millers or hendricks. I drink a good number of beefeater gin martinis, as that is the preferred gin of my father-in-law, so it's what he hands me when I'm over there.

Dark and stormies (rum and ginger beer) or rum and cokes are also quite good.

From time to time I have a bourbon on the rocks. I blame the time I spent in Kentucky, even though I wasn't drinking then.

If we have a bottle of sparkling wine, The Wife and I sometimes have kir royals, which is creme de cassise and champagne (or the local equvialent)

Gin and tonic, heavy on the lime. I also love margueritas and a little concoction my friend made as an after dinner drink: milk, Baileys and Disorono. Failing that, give me a nice stout beer!! If I have any west coast friends who plan to travel east and will pick me up some Terminator stout from MacMinamens in Portland, I will love you forever-they don't export the damn stuff!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'll second a Dark and Stormy, had some good ones in Bermuda years ago... More traditionally, I'm good with a Dirty Martini or better yet, a good single malt with just a splash of water...

But most of the time, I'd just go with a beer (easier on the wallet and during the morning after the night before)

Screwdrivers are good too. Back before Monster we used to enjoy Red Bull & Raspberry Stoli.

Sol, good booze makes good cocktails. Grey Goose, for example. That said, I don't mix anything with good single malts.

I do like some Jaegermeister and Red Bull when I am feeling frisky.

But often I just go for some simple Vodka and Cranberry, or some Brandy and Ginger Ale.

Lately though my favorite has been a good old Rum Old Fashioned.

White Russians, Rum/Whiskey and Cokes, a good Redheaded Slut is a delicious drink but man you can get funny looks ordering one. (For the record a Redheaded Slut and Coke is called a Lindsey Lohan. I am not kidding)

My favorite mixed drink is called a "Coping Mechanism". You take a large glass, throw in some ice, dump those out and fill it up with cheap whiskey. Drink till you can cope with the universe.

I don't really have any particularly favourites, although I'm partial to a Mojito.

I enjoy a nice single malt neat or on the rocks, kind of depends on my mood.

When out drinking with friends, a nice jack and diet coke (normal coke is too sweet for me).

When I want to get obliterated, I make something called "Hawaiian Screw" which is 3 shots of 151 Proof Rum, a splash of Grenadine Syrup, a shot of pineapple juice, and enough SunnyD to fill a 16 ounce water bottle...

But for the most part, beer is fine for me

Shake

Enjoy as flavoured vodka or as a mixer.
