Basically, I knew there were fliers outside the codex and I managed to get hold of the stats/rules etc..... but I just ran into a wiki: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000/6th_Edition_Tactics/Orks
In this wiki it details other units such as:

Grot tanks
mega-dreads
Alternate HQs

My question is:
Are GW's stores and other players generally ok with you fielding these units? I know most are forgeworld, but i've been a long time away and I always modelled rather than actually played (which I want to do this time), I have no idea as to whether it is generally accepted to play these units or if they were more just showy pieces.

I ask mostly because i am super super excited by the units I saw and the potential conversions! but i would like to field them. Especially a grot centred army!

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

These are all in Forgeworld's books. Most people will accept Forgeworld units that are stamped with "40k Approved" in their respective rulebooks. Not all tournaments will, but most casual players or gaming groups will.

Ok thanks I assume then I can pick up the books from forgeworld? gona go looky now

edit: found the books, shame they are so pricey considering all I want is the rules to play the models with.... almost, almost puts me off building them but sadly I can't resist

Yep. Most of the Ork units from Forge World can be found in IA8: Raid on Kastorel Novem

It even has a modified Ork Army list, but I like the normal codex list better.

The books are pricey, but they're really, really nice. They're huge, full-color, high quality books.

My gaming group always allows Forgeworld models. But we've gotten into the habit of asking permission to use Super-heavies, even in apoc games.

Agreed, Praxiss. For my group, super heavies are meant for Apocalypse games or special scenarios/missions. Anything else if fair game, be it FW or otherwise.

We only started doing the super heavy thing when only one of us had one (just after apoc was released i think). We were playing a 3 or 4k game and one of our friends pulls out a Warhound from under the table.

Turned out to be a bit of a gme breaker so we agreed to ask permission for super heavies from then on.

I would recommend you just limit them to Apocalypse games, personally.

Superheavies dominate the game too much, whether they're Forgeworld or GW prime rules. I want to play big games so I can use all my toys, not just have them evaporate under progressively larger pieplates spit out by some superheavy across the table.
