I just purchased some Vallejo Smoke after hearing that it was a great product. I have a friend who told me that it is supposed to be a wash, however, when I went to use it the consistency was much thicker. After doing some research, it seems kind of confusing as to if this product is a wash or a glaze. I'm still fairly new to modeling, and I was wondering if someone might be able to point me in the direction of directions for using this product. The Vallejo website has it classified as a transparent, which sounds interesting but confused me even more. I could not find a good tutorial on how to apply Vallejo Smoke, I would greatly appreciate any help provided.

I've used it for awhile as a wash. Just dilute it 4 or 5:1 water & flow aid:paint and it works fine. You can dilute further if you're using acrylic thinners.

I use it primarily over yellow metallics (gold, bronze, brass, etc.) and on wood (trees, handles, signs). There's probably a lot more you can do with it, but that's the extent of my experience.

I tend to use it for leather and things like it. (Flayed skin etc..)

Vallejo Smoke, and all other transparent "washes" should be thinned before use. I thin mine with "magic wash", about 1 drop of "paint" to two drops of MW. Magic Wash is a solution made from 10% - 20% Future Floor polish and water. It will break the surface tension of you mini and make the wash tend to gather heaviest in the creases, where you want it.

Thinned with water I use it for muzzle burn on weapons and grease effect round moving machine parts.

I have two bottles that I purchased because it "recommended" as a wash.... I like the suggestion of grease effect and never tried that... thanks for the idea.

i use it to "dirty up" pretty much anything...
i do usually thin it with a bit of water, though...
it's good stuff...
