Wassup Dakkans!

So I play a very jump pack oriented Blood Angels army. and struggle with it a bit (I don't play competitvely, just with the same group of casual gamers). I play jump packs because I like the way it looks and the way I envisage it should play.

I know I need to add some more shooty bits to it, but can't bring myself to get any blood angels without jump packs. So that means a small allied contingent. (Not tau - I don't see these as allied detachments they should only be primary detachments, or imperial guard - I want quality shooting, not masses of dirty peasants)

So that kinda only really leaves those power armoured chaps, which is lucky because I really really like the grey knight models.

So, fellow dakkans, now to my point (sorry for the waffle). What would be a good, shooty grey knight detachment - bearing in mind I only really play at the 1000-1500pt mark (so allies would ideally be <500pts)

I know you said grey knights but greenwing DA can be effective and relatively low cost shooting; another bonus is that you can use mostly marine models that you already have!

2-3 Vindicators or Baal Predators would make perfect friends for a jump pack BA force.

Grey Knights are not the way to go. Their points are split between shooting and combat, as most units are decent at both - but their firepower is largely at a maximum of 24" aside from the vehicles. So you won't get many models in an Allies FOC and you won't find the gap-filler you're after. If you absolutely must, skimp on the HQ and Troops a bit and go for any of the HS options bar the Purgation squad (but as allies, you'll only get one).

Might I suggest Eldar instead? You've got lots of shooty options there - Fire Dragons, Dire Avengers, a War Walker squadron, the Wraithlord, a Fire Prism or Falcon... then you can take a Farseer to pop Guide and Doom on top to multiply the effectiveness. I run jump-pack Blood Angels as well and this is the route I'm going down.

Standard Marines would also work as you can take sniper Scouts or Tactical Marines with a heavy weapon for Troops, a Devastator squad (obvious) and then Attack Bikes or Land Speeders in FA - and again, take a Librarian as the HQ. Just a pity you can't get Prescience as vanilla Marines.

I agree with this. In 5th, the reason not to mix Jump Pack-equipped Assault Marines with tanks was the fact that everybody was bringing tons of anti-vehicle shooting. That's less of a concern now.

The main drawback is that you would be very weak against flyers. 3 Baals with Assault Cannons would be mandatory; 12 Twin-linked shots is roughly 4 hits, so you have a decent chance of getting a rend through a Heldrake or Vendetta.

I'm sorry if I'm off point, but if you're looking for a decent shooting squad to hurt infantry and such then a GKSS (with swords and Psybolt ammo) with an Inquisitor who takes prescience. That's quite a few Str 5 re-roll to hit shots that can put some hurt on the enemy. Anyhow this is just my suggestion if you're set on getting Grey Knights and you aren't hurting for anti-vehicle weapons.

I agree with this. The Vindicators will be Fast so they can still move and shoot that Str 10 Template (which can instant kill Greater Daemons, even!) and the Baal Predators can Scout, so you have a couple of heavy shooting units (with better than a 3+ save, so probably better than Devastators) that can keep up with your Jump Troops.

Go "Matt Ward Style" and throw in your Necro-Bros.

You can get up to three flyers plus an Ann. Barge for four twin linked tesla destructors!

Plus, you could bring Imotek to give yourself cover saves for your jump troops (at the risk of a few lightning bolts frying them along the way, but you're assault marines... who cares? Right?)

Why would you take vanilla Devastators when BA devastators are so much cheaper?

You must be very careful with both jump troops and vindicators. The Baals are much safer in terms of not templating your own men.
