Subject: Ork FW Fighta - Supa Rokkits or not?
|
 |

Hey dakka,
Some people have been telling me that the Ork Fighta from forgeworld has Supa-Rokkits. However, its profile only says "Rokkit", and while the Rokkit is also one shot like a Supa-Rokkit, it's also listed as only 24" range where a Supa-Rokkit has like 72".
The main point of importance though is that Supa-Rokkits have automatic 2+ to hit, and as far as I know no other kind of Rokkit has that.
Can someone clear this up for me? Have they FAQed it? Do regular Rokkits also get the 2+ and I just haven't seen it? Are the other gus wrong?
If they have Supa-Rokkits honest to god I'm going to build nine of them to go with my nine scratchbuilt Big Trakks and troll all the IG at my club. Good times to be had. But if its two one shot, BS 2 rokkits, then this Fighta is an enormous pile of garbage and not worth the effort.

The only Ork Fightas I know of are the Fighta-Bommer and the Attak Fighta. Current rules for both can be found in Imperial Armour Aeronautica.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Ork Fighta, pg. 45 of Imperial Armour Apocalypse: Second Edition.
Ork Attak Fighta on page 42 of Aeronautica, same model and same rules as the Fighta from IAA:2E except for slight changes to the wording of the Rokkit. Its now its Heavy 1, One Use Only, and Range 72" - the same as the Supa-Rokkit from IA-8. However, as its not called a "Supa-Rokkit" and I can't see any other rules for just a plain old Rokkit I don't know if its suppost to be getting the 2+ to hit or not.

Dakkamite, IAAeronautica supercedes the rules found in IAA 2nd ed. Both of which supercede the rues found in IA8 (which does come with a supa-rokkit0.

AFAIK the fighta-Bomma does have Supa-Rokkits which are grot guided (hit on a 2+).
I played a guy with Orks a few weeks ago and i think he was using the rules from IA8 as he didn't have Aeronautica.

The rules in IA8 are superseded by the rules in IAA 2nd edition which are superseded by the rules in IAAe. This would be like somebody running a Night Spinner using the rules in IAA instead of White Dwarf (IAA has 7" Blast, WD has Large)

The Ork Fighta is in both IA8 and IAA 2nd ed. But the Fighta-Bomma (different model and rules) is not in IAA 2nd Ed at all, just in IA8.
Can't speak for aeronautica as I dont know anyone who has it.

Yeah you're right. Fighta-Bommer is not in IAA 2nd ed.
However, both the Fighta and Fighta-Bommer are in IAAe.

It's well worth picking up a copy, some good units in there. Another question regarding the Rokkits though is does their Grot-Guided rule apply to other Flyers, or do you have to Snap-Shot them as with other weapons?

We had this exat arguement in my game - mainly because his Skullhamma super heavy tank had super rokkits as well.
The best solution we could find was that anything that does not use a BS value to hit cannot snap-fire, and therefore can't be shot against flyers (auto hitting on a 2+ means you are not using BS).
but other flyers don't NEED to snap fire to hit flyers. So we determined that super rokkits on a flyer COULD be used against other flyers, while ground unit based ones couldn't.
