Hiya,

Thinking about buying some sternguard for my up and coming Imp Fists army. I've seen on many showcases and threads people recommend spamming combi's.

Being finecast it comes only with enough parts to make 5 Sternguard with no customization?

looking at the contents, i've noticed the arms are part of the model, leaving only the hands to glue on....how can you customize weapons if the arms aren't generic or detachable?

Please let me know how and if you've done this. I'd be very grateful for any input.

I just build sternguard from various PA marine parts that look pretty together and throw a chapterhouse combi-bolter in their hands and call it good.

I converted my box of them just fine, despite having to work around the hands and arms.

Here's some good combi-meltas. You can easily do most combi-weapons without having to futz around with their limbs, I find. None of the ones in the Sternguard box gave me any trouble, at any rate.

Hope this helps, and I hope your models turn out great!

^This, alot of people just make them out of various fancy PA Marine parts: MK 8 (Tac sarge) 'errant' armour torsos, DA, BT or BA vet parts etc... and add either a custom made combi weapon or one of the various third party combi weapons.

You can find tutorials for custom combi weapons on Dakka - just search!.

Anvil and Chapterhouse are the two third parties I can think of off the top of my head - both are able to be magnetised as well!

I converted some using the death company hand meltas. I don't have any pictures tho. Also GW have the sternguard weapon set in finecast that has a combi flamer, combimelta, combiplasma, heavy flamer and lightning claws. The combi weapons are just a little on the small side.

Since you are doing imperial fists you can add decorations of skeleton hands from fallen comrades as decorations.

I am interested to see what you come up with as I have 10 fine cast models on my work bench right now. But I plan on converting 10 regular marines for different poses. But I liked the detail and poses on the fine cast set. I have an old production run and a newer run. And the quality is noticeably increasing.

Plan on doing a WIP thread?
