Hey all, I am starting a small necron force and love the backstory of the Sarnekh Dynasty and the Reaveworld with pirate necrons. However I am wondering if there has been any solid fluff for color wise put out for them or if this is more of a one to spark intrigue and imagination. Does anyone know? I have looked for a few days on google and called my local (hour away) store and they had no knowledge even such an army was ever mentioned in the codex.

Any help appreciated, thanks!

John,

Not sure how to help you on this one, I hate seeing newer users ask for help and not get a reply.

The way I would look at it, is that if no one knows about it, you have a great artistic license to make them look how ever you want.

Good Luck.

Thank you Darefsky. I do appreciate it.
I actually found in the codex their symbol which gave me some great inspiration added onto what I already had. So license acquired and lets hope I can make something good out of it! Ha ha. Will post pics as the project advances.

Pirate necrons offer a wealth of possibilities. Definitely look into the Dark Elf and High Elf sea-themed sets for suitable pirate outfits, cloaks and cutlasses, and Vampire Counts for undead seamen costumes. Ghost arks with prows and masts, robot eyepatches, canoptek scarab parrots, all sorts of good stuff.

Troll around different bits sites and see if you can't find some Pirate hats. Or even a tutorial or two on how to sculpt them with greenstuff!

Those are actually really interesting Ideas, I was originally just going to model them like a normal necron force but just with the Dynasty's colors but I guess it wouldn't be very obvious if I did most of it in the list building. I will definitely try to find some inspiration for maybe a more futuristic pirate hat I can model onto them. That big sweeping one seems.... too human in my opinion.

And ghost arks with prows etc are a must. I was thinking of getting a DE APC (can't think of the name) and repurpose it, you know? Armor it up and weaponize it for necron use. May not look normal but hey, pirates pirate things, right? Definitely was thinking of giving each model some trophies they could have claimed in the field. Exotic weapon, artifact, etc. What do you guys think of those two ideas?

The Ghost Ark itself already looks perfect for a pirate ship, with the cannons on each side At least everytime I manage to get my GA between 2 separate target I get all happy inside with the idea of the it shooting both ways and the necrons inside going DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA aswell. It's those simple things in life, ya know

You could create a "floor" with plasticard or another thing instead of having those spaces between the "ribs" and make a mini diorama there, with necrons "manning" the cannons or some piles of loot.

That's actually an amazing idea making a floor! I honestly never have seen a built GA, just the pictures. Thank you VERY much for that inspiration! Do the necrons that stand in it come as one piece wonders or is there some assembly required?

Here is the tutorial I used when I was making up my freebooterz. I'm sure you could work with that.

There's a sprue. You can see how they require some assembly.

Thank you for the link! Probably next weekend I'll try sculpting some of those jackets and hats! And I will most definitely post pictures! That's the fun of it. lol.

Oh, I see how that sprue goes together. Hmmm.... maybe a neural linking cable like a servitor has to the cannon would work (so I don't have to canabalize warriors, I know, I'm cheap). Or just a small antenna on the gun and necron with some form of optic on the gun? Neither of those seem very Necron-ish. :/

I used that tut for my freebooterz dude and it works a treat. The key to the hat is getting the right amount of GS, a bit to much and they look like pantomime pirates lmao
