I was exactly sure where to post this, and Its (for me at least) 40k related so here goes...

On the Lovely Army Builder program, can you change what certain things output? For example, when you select a unit and it has a laspistol for instance, when you go to output it itll show under weapns something like this; Laspistol: Range: 40 feet; S 52; AP -6; Pistol. (yeah, i know thats not the real laspistol but its an example)

Is there a way to change it to say whatever I want it to say? For example, can I edit it to say Laspistol: Range 12" S3 Ap - Pistol?

You can edit the source files used to generate that output. If you download the add on creator program this is easy to do.

However I dont believe you will be able to sign it as the ab40k.org version, so when you print it out and it states the version and file used, you will show up your changes.

There are XML files that you can open with your favorite text editor and hack to your hearts content.

Of course, that is cheating if you plan on using them to play normal games. Its the same as writing on paper and fudging your numbers. If you get caught doing this at tourneys you will be kicked out or even banned.

Accidently going over 10 points when writing on paper happens. Accidently opening XML files to change army points does not.

What i actually really intended to do was replace the entries that say see ig codex page 912 really. Cheating? For real? Who would get away with that? Thats actually the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. Next youll be saying youve seen people scribble entries in their codexes out and try to play that way. Wow.

There are probably a lot of people who would default to trusting something if it was printed by army builder (or some other list-making program), so editing the points would make it look at first glance like a legitimate list.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If you go onto a 40k Forum asking how to change information in a trusted army list program used in many tournaments, expect people to think you're planning on using it to cheat.

Just a thought.

Well if i first glance approved a list then his space marine tac squad were hitting me with bolter: s8 ap2 range 56" assault 12 blast id be like yo can i uh see your book?

But i get the taters yer slinging some people want to win no matter what.

Me? I want the game to be smooth so when i forget a special rule i can search amongst 4 sheets of paper to get it instead of cracking out my codex/rulebook flipping tabs going uhhhhh 1 sec bro.

Well obviously you wouldn't do something that extreme. But, say, taking 10 points off the price of a few units so you can fit in one more unit? That kind of thing would be a lot easier to get away with.

I get where youre coming from but to me thats alien. I once made a list that was 200 points over and then i made another that was correct. Left the correct one brought the over list and won. After the match i looked again and realized and was like oh craap noooooo! I felt like a douche baf but my opponent was cool.

I think that my laziness coming across as nefarious evil doing cheating is hilarious/sad and depicts the sadder WAAC players out there :(

you can also make your own codex in armybuilder and build with that as a base, or add units to the current one.
Don't trust a list that is armybuilder. It's not a tool to keep cheaters bound by the rules, it's a tool to make a legitimate army faster.
