I was hoping people could provide me with some feedback on how to improve my youtube channel. I'm currently working through reviews the new tau codex, but am hoping to post batreps within a couple weeks and do an overview of my tyranid forces.
What would make my videos more interesting? Is the subject matter clear? Are my discussions sufficiently direct and informative? What visuals would you like to see? --These types of things.
Greatly appreciate the feedback, thanks!

BatRep = Battle report. It's a video of a 40k battle. I honestly believe there are only 2 types of batreps:
- one where we only see what happens after a player's turn and the guy filming explains what happened
- miniwargaming's style, where you see everything (the rolls, movement, assault, etc. etc.) and you have someone explaining everything.
Edit: Ninja'ed!

Thx! Automatically Appended Next Post: it makes it kind of static and a bit boring when we just have a view of the standing models. I dont know what I am suggesting, just a comment

Your tactic videos are very good, I just think you should change the view from time to time. Like The DraconicLord mentioned I think you should do your batreps in the stlye of miniwargamings. Looking forward to seeing them.

Well, I felt like an a-hole after reading this, so I went ahead and checked some your vids . They are pretty good. I enjoyed your explanation of different units and why you think they are good for a role or another and you even discuss the upgrades. Very informative. Do you prepare a script for the video or do you make it on the fly?
(Oh, and I can't believe you actually convinced me that Kroot MAY be an interesting unit )
And I second Hoyt. If you could do the batreps MWG style, it would be fantastic. I understand they probably are much, much harder to do than normal ones, but the end result is so worth it.

I find that watching videos on gaming are far more enjoyable when the host has a script or a basic idea of what he's going to say. Nothing makes me lose interest faster than...
"Well here on this page.... wait... where is it.... ah, here it is.... blah blah... what's that do?... turn to this page... hmmm..."

I just write Battle Reports. I like reading. I like writing. I'm not a visual learner so I get less from the videos because I always find they lack a certain... drama? There's explanations but peoples acting sucks, and presentation usually sucks because they repeat themselves and they get distracted and off topic and... Also, it isn't as if these are voice talents doing the presentation. Lol.
I like the drama you can kind of build into written battle Reports. I know not everyone reads them or even likes them (and...thats out of laziness I think more than actually finding them "bad" in some way), but still pics with written words is better to me than the clumsy attempts at cinematography and bad acting you get in so many Battle Reports. You can view the picture, really take it in for a second and think about it. Video Reports can also be stilled, but it's not quite the same experience.
So for what thats worth, MOAR WERDS. Perhaps publish the script along with the report? As input goes, thats all I got.
I'll pass the Batrep link to a buddy of mine who is HIGHLY visual. He cant learn a damn thing unless you paint him a picture, but he WILL learn it if you paint him a picture.

Oh no! No need to feel bad (please accept my apologies). I just found it objectively humorous that the thread went a different direction than I had thought. Of course, most threads end up that way...
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I'll certainly mix up the camera angles a bit more, and do my best to make the batreps as real-time as possible. I agree that the 'summary' style of batrep is not particularly engaging. Each batrep's style will probably be a factor of time, equipment, and opponents' tolerance for filming.
I've been trying to include summaries of my review/tactic videos in the liner notes, but I can certainly make those more comprehensive. Written batreps can also be posted on dakka based on filming notes too.
I write down basic points that I want to hit, which is why I periodically have pauses (I'm checking my outline), but I do not have a fully fleshed-out script. Only bullet-points.
Again, thank you for the comments.
