Hey Dakka, this is my first attempt at a tournament worthy list. I know it isn't competitive but I am limited by time and resources (e.g. models available) but I don't want to be a complete push-over so I'd appreciate any advice, comments or constructive criticism you can offer.

As stated in the title this is a 1250 point list for Chaos Space Marines.

HQ
Daemon Prince - Power Armour, Wings, Daemon of Slaanesh
Sorcerer - Mastery Level 2, Sigil of Corruption, Veteran of the Long War, Spell Familiar

Troops
Chaos Cultists - 17 Cultists, 7 Autoguns, Flamer
Chaos Space Marines - 10 Marines, Icon of Vengeance, 2 Meltaguns, Veteran of the Long War, Aspirant w/ Power Fist
Chaos Space Marines - 15 Marines, Mark of Khorne, Icon of Wrath, 2 Flamers, Pistols & CCW, Aspirant w/ Combi-flamer, Gifts, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon

Fast Attack
Chaos Bikers - 6 Bikers, 2 Plasma Guns, Veteran of the Long War

Heavy Support
Chaos Havocs - 5 Havocs, 4 Autocannons

All of this comes in neatly at 1250 points. I don't have any vehicles nor will I by the time of the tournament. I'm not sure about my anti-air capabilities or how many flyers I'll encounter at this points level but as it is competitive I'm assuming quite a few.

The idea is to sit the sorcerer with one of the troop squads will the Havocs stay in cover shooting at any tough infantry, monstrous creatures, vehicles or really anything that looks like a problem. I'm going to trust in my Daemon Prince and hope that I don't run into a flying circus. The bikers zip forward shooting heavy infantry and assaulting light infantry formations while my chaos marines move forward behind the living cover save that is 17 cultist. I know this isn't optimised but I'm not looking to win just have a good time, with that in mind, what do you think?

So... help?

At this points level I think you should be fine with your anti air. I wouldn't give the marines flamers though. You're probably giving it to them for points reasons but I would try to fit in plasma or meltas. Other than that I think you should be fine (the helbrute scares me but it's what you have and your text makes it seem like you're in a hurry XD)

You don't like the idea of the Helbrute?
I have some leaway by the way.

I have:
1 Daemon Prince
1 Chaos Lord
1 Chaos Terminator Sorcer
1 Chaos Sorcerer
6 Terminators
6 Chosen
20 Chaos Cultists
20 Chaos Space Marines
4 Chaos Space Marine Bikers
2 Spawn
... and a limited ability to buy (e.g. Havocs with Missile Launchers )

The only problem with the flamers is that the icon bearer is carrying one and I should have mentioned that those CSM swapped out their Bolter for bolt piston and CCW...

Not so much of a rush, its just I have a month or so after exams to get my army ready for the tournament

Helbrutes are just to slow and to much of an easy target for what they have. If your marines have CCW you may want to put more in the squad. You won't want to run them up field without some sort of protection, they'll just be shot to pieces. I gave my first 10 marines CCW and I realize quickly that bolters help their killy and surviving. Something you could try? You may try your bike squad? They're fast tough and you can fill it with plasma =D

Perhaps cut down on the missile launchers and sub in some ACs in the havoc squad, flesh out the CC squad, and consider VoTLW for your CC squad, I hear marines are a common army.

The hellbrute by itself will not be great, as itis your only vehicle, perhaps some cheap termies for termicide fun or some bikers?
Also I question ichor blood on the prince, never cared for it, but YMMV.

Could I get away with 4 Autocannons completely or are Flakk going to be rather mandatory at this level its just for a combined squad the money-cost kinda grows
I'd rather go all out one way or the other, you know?
I was worried about taking bikes because I've run small Ravenwing squads before and they died because my opponent saw them as a threat he'd have to deal with early and did so... they died turn one and I was worrying that would happen to the Chaos Bikers if I did that.

I think your havoc squad is just too expensive.

@Filch - Thanks for the helpful advice... How would you run a Havoc squad then?

A lot of people hate the Helbrute, but I have grown to love him. A great tool for squashing termies, especially if you give him the power scourge, I love that thing.
The melta is also a great tool and the crazed rule is pretty decent as long as he has enemies near by, which he will because he is up in the enemies face.
At 110 points, a great buy

As stated in the title this is a 1250 point list for Chaos Space Marines.

HQ
Daemon Prince - Mastery Level 1, Power Armour, Wings, Daemon of Slaanesh
Sorcerer - Mastery Level 2, Sigil of Corruption, Veteran of the Long War, Spell Familiar

Troops
Chaos Cultists - 10 Cultists, Flamer

The idea is to sit the sorcerer with one of the troop squads will the Havocs stay in cover taking out large infantry formations and flyers and the Daemon Prince buffs whoever he can while smashing whatever he can and just generally making a very big target of himself.

So... help?

Commetting on the third edit of the list.
I think you have too much invested in the HQ choices and possibly too many troop choices; or too many cheap troop choices.
The bikes are a throw away unit which is a shame. Add a few more bodies to the unit and it suddenly becomes quite agressive and can take people on in close combat as well as melta-ing the tanks. If you are going to melta the tanks then melta-bombs on the champion gives you much better chance of getting the rear armour of the tank or the front armour of the walker in combat.

Havocs are far too expensive. The flakk missile launchers alone cost the same as an ADL. Trade in a cultist unit and suddenly you have some awesomely armed havocs camping behind an ADL much better anti-tank and anti-air (as you get the interceptor rule).

I'm not sure why you have paid for a mastery level on the demon prince. Unless you are finding the points for a black mace to make him/her a combat god then you may as well trade him in for a heldrake to save points and get two shooting style attacks per turn.

The marines are set up for close combat / close fire support roles but at the moment the are reliant on foot slogging to get to the emeny (or for the emeny to want to get close to them); ignoring other things and given enough turns an ork unit in a trukk is going to reverse away and big shoota these two units. Yes they can revserse almost as fast as you can move and run!

At the very least I would suggest getting something to support the havocs; in the form of a helbrute or forgefiend to give them something which can take charges from most (non power fist) units; and putting the marines into rhinos to get them up the table and flaming and melta-ing in support of the demon prince and the bikes.

Stop being poor and pay for it lol
I'd rock this at 1250

Khorne Lord of a Juggy with AoBF, and SoC
Spawn x5
Lvl 3 Sorcerer with jump pack, SoC, spell familiar - if he doesn't roll invis he DS's in with Obliterators

Nurgle Oblits x3

Heldrake with baleflamer x2

Cultist x31 with three auto guns

Cultist x10

Reserve according to psyker power rolls. Bounce from cover to cover for a turn until reserves come in. Kill all of thier troops, profit. If you're lucky a squad of cultists was able to live until the end of the game on an objective. I hope you won all the secondary objectives. haha
