In the CD 'dex, Daemonic Instability says:

"A unit with this special rule cannot be joined by a unit without this special rule"

Does that mean Heralds can join allied units? ie HoN joining Firewarriors.

Yeah, but only if they are also Battle Brothers. Non-battle brothers can't join each other's units. So no Herald in the Fire Warrior unit.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Oh, that's right. It's a cool loophole(?) though. ( did they intend this?)

its a loophole. They will likely FAQ that ICs with the special rule can't join units without it either.

It is not a loophole, it is illegal. Re-read the rules for Daemons of X (forget the exact name or the rule).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Heralds can only join units of the same Daemonic Alignment i believe. It stops cross god Heralding and joining non daemon units

A Daemon Herald of Nurgle (or Tzeentch, Slaanesh, Khorne) can only join units that have the "Daemon of Nurgle" rule. Heralds can only join units from the Daemon codex, at this point. And no models outside the Daemon book have "Daemonic Instability," so nothing outside the Daemon codex can join units from that codex.

Daemons are consigned to being on their own on the battlefield, as it should be. Even Chaos Marines are secretly disgusted by the unholy terrors they fight alongside.

Yeah that one. I was at work, and couldn't remember (or look it up).

Daemonic Instability is pretty simple.

Have Daemonic Instability? yes = you can join units of daemons (requiring you have same mark).
Have Daemonic Instability? no = you cannot join the unit of daemons (even if you have same mark).

on the other hand, DI does not stop a herald from joining a unit that does not have DI, there is only the limitation of non di joining units with di.
ie: a herald can join a csm squad if it is marked the same.

a mark does not equal a daemon alignment.

aka. Mark of Nurgle != Daemon of Nurgle.

The Daemonic Instability thing though I agree on.

I'm using the digital codex and it says (paraphrasing because I don't have it with me) that Models with DI cannot join units without DI, and Models without DI cannot join units that have DI.
