Hello everyone!

My main army is Necrons but I have been thinking a lot of actually using the Dark Vengeance Dark Angels I still have in small battles. I'm a HUGE fan of one of their descendant chapters, the Guardians of the Covenant:

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Covenant#.UYfXWrUp8t5

Now, does anyone know if all the SM use those awesome red robes? I know only the DA Veterans use robes, but these ones were all wearing robes in their picture of the new codex, both artwork and display miniature.
Anyone knows if they have a special colored Death and Raven wing?
Where can I get their chapter decals?

If anyone knows, please do share. Thanks!

There seems to be a lack of fluff, so feel free to make your own up around what already exists.

Neither forgeworld or GW stock their decals from what I have seen despite GW stocking some of the successor chapters decal sheets. As for the robes that would likely be down to your aesthetic preference, I'd suggest using them to denote sergeants and veterans to break up the squads a little. As for the paint schem for various wings that will come down to what you want them to look like, though I would suggest painting them atleast in a different scheme to your normal marines.

Well, since it appears there's no specific fluff, I'll probably follow the usual "lore": Veterans and seargeants get a robe (just like Melcavuk sugested), "Normal" marines get nothing or maybe something else. There's a lot of possibilities for a not so well known chapter.

A pity about the decals, though. I *could* try to eventually free-hand, it would be a good practice.

Anyway, thanks for your help

The symbol is relatively simple and would be a good starting point for beginning freehand.

I agree, the Guardians of the Covenant paint scheme might be my favorite for a DA successor Chapter.

My primary army is Dark Angels, but I picked up a model on eBay and felt inspired to paint him different.

I liked the fact that he had the red robes, but because it used the champion torso, the robes were toned down and a less prevalent part of the model. So, although getting lots of champion torsos isn't very practical, I think there are a lot of other similarly unique ways to add that red spot color without committing to a veteran robed body.

By the way, their freehand isn't too bad! Begin with a "X" pattern, and carefully flesh out the lines into little swords. Maybe I've had too much practice on their parent chapter, but I agree with Grey Templar that this is a great way to test the waters of freehand.

Good luck to you mate, hope I could help!

Both of you did . Well, I guess it's decided. Freehanding the symbol, adding the Red as a spot colour to the normal marines without using the robes, and I'll probably make some fluff. Once I'm completely tired of painting necrons, I know which project to attack next.

Thanks all

I run a Guardians of the Covenant Ravenwing. I'll take some pics and post them later... I love their color scheme.

You don't have to put the crossed swords on ever one. I've seen people trim two DA decals down and use them for the GC pads

Well, it has been some time and it's still not complete but I thought I would show the paint scheme of my first Guardian of the Covenant! I decided not to have all the SM with robes, but just the veterans according to the DA lore, so I added the red spot color in other areas.

Thanks everyone for the sugestions

Spoiler:

If you have any more ideas or sugestions for future GotC, please do share!

Space Wolves are amazing aswell! I recently painted a few for a friend, they are filled with so many different details! They look great and are a challenge to paint.

I'll have to search around for more info then. Something I really would like to know more about is the Lelith, the race the GotC faced and purged saving an entier sub-sector. And hey, can you show your GotC aswell? Always happy to get inspiration from dakkadakka members!

I don't have pics, sadly X-X and there isn't a lot about the Lilth besides the blurb in the codex... also, sadly.

Well, my first 3 (and only for now) GotC are done and I found out free-handing their symbol is much harder than what I expected x_X. I will have to figure out a way to draw it on a more consistent way to avoid such differences between marines. Here's the final result:

Spoiler:

I can't wait to try the veterans in the future.

The only good thing about this is that I can create my own Lelith. This allows me to search around for minis I go "Wow, I really want to paint that" and use them for my chapter's Lore

Awesome models! and yea, the guardian's and the iron knight's symbols are really hard to paint for inexperienced people.

Those swords are turning out really well, if I were across the table from you I doubt I would notice that they weren't decals.

I saw the Iron Knight's symbol, that one looks a true PITA symbol but very good looking

Thanks for the kind words.

Exactly! Loved the paint scheme ever since I found it in the Lexicanum before the new DA codex. Without any doubt my DA will be GotC themed.

I prefer straight up black and silver, and I color the equipment like bolters, special weapons, and helmet attachments bronze. I usually keep the Red for the sergeants, as it distinguishes them apart from the rest of the rank and file.
