Faeit's latest video upload from Valhalla features an overview of Dropzone Commander with Dave Lewis (the designer) and includes the new monorail scenery that can only be seen in blurry pictures prior to now (it is so new that no studio pictures have been taken yet) and the only footage of it was taken prior by Beasts of War at Salute.

Also, an extra little bit, Hawk and Natfka mention that there is an expansion in the works, but little detail is given in that regard.

See the link below to watch the video yourself. Monorail featured starting at roughly 31:10.

Cool video, thanks for posting that here.

I wish they had gone over the gameplay more though.

The factions remind me a lot of Starcraft, which isn't a bad thing...

The super cheap terrain and relatively cheap armies are nice to see. I'm going to casually mention this to my group, to see if any others are interested. I've never played with 15mm scale, but these models look so nice.

Thanks for the video, although there's an active thread discussing the monorail for DzC already (and the BoW video of it) so this should probably be posted over there:

You are indeed correct RiTides. My apologies. I have posted a copy of the link in that thread and I think we can close this one down.

So... if I were dipping my toes into a 10mm/15mm game... would Dropzone Commander be a decent one?

For about $200 I can get two starter armies, the Cityscapes set, and the core rules.... and have it in hand today. That somehow has a strong pull to me, while 80% of my hobby dollars are currently tied up in Kickstarters.

Is there a place to read more impressions of the game?

Likewise, a silly question, but is it possible to field lots of infantry? I love the look of infantry at this scale.

On moon miranda.

It's possible to field lots of infantry, but their battlefield role is usually objective retrieval and not so much direct action units in many cases, so lots of infantry won't always be a great investment. That's not to say they can't fight, but relative to vehicles they are less efficient fighting units (usually), but they can enter buildings to accomplish mission objectives where tanks and walkers cannot.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Thanks for that.

Any other thoughts on the game for someone new to the scale, or in general? Any particular sites where discussion can be found, as obviously the game is very niche around these parts.

I would've just skipped to playing Flames of War, but as a Dust Warfare guy, I just feel satisfied with the time period, and find true historical settings so dry. Dropzone looks perfectly creative, and as someone with hundreds invested in 28mm terrain, it just looks so appealing to throw $30 at the Cityscapes and be done with 10-15mm terrain for a while.

you might try the Hawk Wargames forums, I don't know of too much regular discussion/review elsewhere though as the game is still rather new.

I'll say this, for those on the fence... Don't go by Youtube Bat-Reps for a pseudo-review. You'll find several videos of brand new players, embarking and disembarking over and over for thirty minutes, and not actually giving any indication as to the style of game or its tactics.... unless there aren't any, in which case... uh oh. :-p

I'd kill for a good, content rich review of the mechanics.

If you go with DZC get the middle-sized army packs. The small ones are not that much fun and you will soon ask why you did not get the,. Also don´t expect the dropships to zoom around and drop units here and there, most of the times one drop and then move from the board will the best they can do. Army list buidlding can be a little bit annoying.

Well that isn't the best sales-pitch i've ever heard. :-p

That said, i'm probably still starting with two-starters. Medium Armies would be nice, but as I have to buy for the wife and I, it spread money thinner. For about $200 I can get two of the smaller starters, the Cityscape kit, and the core rules. Upping it to medium armies would add almost $150 more, and right now i'm already tight, as Mantic has $400 on my money tied up in Deadzone Kickstarter. :-p

Also, I will restate a request for good links to bat-reps/reviews... the ones i've watched are terrible, and bad reporting makes even good games look bad. I just TRIED, for example, to sit through a 50 minute Dust bat-rep and watched men argue over every rule, and get tons wrong either way..... :-p
