Hi all,
so I have a game lined up against a friend of mine and he will be running his demons army.
I have never played demons before and was hoping for some advice on what tactics to use against them

My opponent runs a full Tzeentch army and normally takes in a 2000pts game:
1 greater demon
2 heralds
20 pink horrors
3 demon princes
soul grinder
Flamers

My list at the moment is
CCS; Flag, Astropath
Lord Commisar
platoon= 40 men, 4 autocannons, GL. PCS with 4 melta and Al'rahm
Platoon= 20 men, 2 auto cannon, 2 plasma, 30 SITNW conscripts. PCS with 1 GL, Autocannon and Chenkov
2 Leman Russ with Hull+sponson HB
1 Demolisher with hull HB
1 Bolter Pask Punisher
Hellhound
ADL with quad gun

I figured as many medium and low strength/AP shots as possible as he get an invul save anyway.
Any help would be great. If a full list of available units is wanted i will post it.

actually that will work faily well on everything but the lord of change as they can get a wiked 2+invul rerollable with the proper setup
i would however like to suggest you bring some anti psyker to mitigate stuff as all of the tzeench based shooting are psychic powers
an allied farseer with runes of warding and some guardian jet bikes would be a decent choice

and they call me cj

The runes are a fantastic suggestion but will not help your friendship as it almost invalidates his army. You need to put as many wounds on his units as possible to make him fail his invulnerable saves. You also need to kill the herald ASAP and tarpit the DPs. Do you know if he will be running the DPs as the "shooty", flying, and/or melee? Overall your list is not bad. Some vendettas or skyfire is needed if these will all be FMCs to get them grounded. The leman russ battle cannons are not very good against daemons as the AP 3 does nothing. The demolisher is better as it doubles the DP toughness so you can ID them.

The punisher, MSU platoons, ADL quadd gun, conscripts, and Demolisher are all highly useful. You can probably even get by against FMCs with just MSU lasguns as every hit forces a grounding test. You may want to strip some of the rest for points to take more of the other positives and get 1-2 barrage weapons to get rid of any portaglyph he drops behind some wall but you should be in a good position.

Swap the LRBT for an exterminator for the same cost, and you'll probably be fine.

Guard have long had a weakness for handling monstrous creatures. Cram some more plasma into your list to handle them at short range, as at least you can do that well.

I would have to agree that you should not take runes on an allied farseer. If I were your friend, I wouldn't play you if you did this, unless I ordinarily just absolutely flatten your army every game. It's bad enough to list tailor your own army, without adding a new one for the express purpose of guaranteeing a win.

I play an almost full tzeentch daemon army, and games against eldar and to a lesser degree space wolves are some of the least fun I've ever had while playing 40k.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I played the game today and I won!

To be as brief as possible:
He brought double what I was expecting for infantry and fate weaver instead of LOC

Chekov platoon+Commisar+CCS camped behind the ADL all game. This was eventually nick named the alamo as at the end of the game my "bunker" only had 3 men in it manning the quad gun

Hell hound and Demolisher died by turn two. Punisher died on turn 3 but managed to kill 1 300 point demon prince and 6 screamers.

Conscripts advanced, all burst into flames and died. Managed to gun strip off 2 wounds from a DP first. Came back on on turn 3 and spent the next 3 turns tieing down the soul grinder and 15 man pink horror squad and contesting the relic.

Al'rahm platoon won me the game, came on wiped one squad of horrors then multi charged 2 others ( he kept being able to spawn them in)

Highlight of the game: Chenkov one shot a DP.
