My friend and I were just discussing a gunship variant of the Stormraven similar to the AC-130 Spectre (which for those who don't know, is a C-130 transport plane with it's transport capacity replaced by several miniguns and an artillery piece firing out the side of the aircraft).

Basically we're thinking a Stormraven with no transport capacity. It can only take heavy bolters on the nose, it loses its missiles, and the left side door is replaced with a thunderfire cannon firing to the left. The top turret would also be replaced with a fixed left-firing battery of two twin-linked autocannons or a twin linked assault cannon.

What do you think? Would anyone want this turkey and how many points would you pay for it? I think it would actually come in about the same price as the current version - not being able to haul troops, losing weapon options, and the limited firing arc should make up for the hurt it would put out at range.

Seems a bit silly just having them fire to the left. I know the Spectre has to do this but you'd think the tech would have improved by the 40st Miliennium. Anyway, it's pretty overpowered: a TFC, 2 TL Autocannons, Heavy Bolters, and 2 Hurricane Bolters. I'd just keep it at a TFC, TL Autocannon, and an Assault Cannon

Well firing to the left is the whole character of the model (seeing as it's a slightly silly AC-130 knockoff). It also makes for interesting maneuvering to be sure your target is within the 45 degree firing arc of your side weapons.

And I guess I didn't make myself clear, the only weapons on it would be the TF cannon and 2x TL autocannons or 1x TL assault cannon (and the heavy bolters on the nose). It narrows it down to just the intended purpose.

Im actually working on a basterdized megaboma/a.c.-130 gunship. It has a nose mounted giga cannon, 3 cannons and 6 big shootas on the left, a flakk cannon on the roof and eventually going to be loaded with para dropping nobz.

I don't know jack about thunder fire cannons, but maybe vanquisher or battle cannons might be a hell of a lot more badass

Thunderfire's basically an anti-infantry multiple blast weapon with different types of ammunitions. They're awesome.

To really run a Spectre/Spooky, you'd want to simulate the three guns the real thing has.

The 7.62mm would be a Punisher Gatling Cannon (like on the Vulture)

The 25mm is probably an autocannon.

The 105mm is the Thunderfire.

Lastly, as AC 130s are exclusively used on night ops...it needs a search light (yay for IOM not packing NVGs)

Boom done. No idea on point cost....a lot.

I rather like the idea, but mounted on more on an IG craft as its more their style. Im thinking marauder bomber with a single assault canon, TLAC and a heavy 2 Gryphon heavy mortar (the s6 AP4 one) all on a left firing arc (call em sponsons with a 90 degree fire angle)

Illum Flares rather than Searchlight.

If you did this idea I would call the following balanced.

May replace twin-linked heavy bolter with a twin-linked MM for 20 pts

I would toss in the option for a tml on the nose and the las or plas cannon on the turret to give it the customability and adaptability that the current stormraven has
