If anyone could break down the most points-efficient, balanced builds it'd be awesome. I figured I'd post this here rather than army lists as this less concerned by my army lists and more with the concept of competitive greenwing. If anyone could work out mathhammer for things that'd be great as I'm awful with maths... One thing I did notice was the possibility for MSU spamming heavy weapons at low-point level games.

I've put together 3 lists so far and some critique would be great.

500pts

Tactical squad, 5 additional marines, heavy bolter

750pts

Tactical squad, lascannon

Depends on what you want out of your greenwing. If it's HW spam then grab some devestators. If it's marine spam then grab a devestation banner somewhere as well.

Why do people call them Greenwing? I just don't get the need to make up another silly name. The army type you're thinking of has a name, and it's coincidentally the name of the codex itself. They're Dark Angels. In a fluff sense, they're a Battle Company.

My experience with the codex is pretty limited, but Librarians are a popular choice since they're a cheap way to get some Divination. Banners of Devastation are also very popular with Marines on foot, and make their bolters pretty devastating, appropriately enough.

cause DA have 3 things they have going for them, not a single build that they have to play. Saying "greenwing" means people will understand that you mean "tac dark angels". If you were to just say "Dark Angels" there'd be at least 3 posts going "what type of dark angels do you mean?".
'Greenwing' in itself is a continuation of the Ravenwing and Deathwing theme of the Angels.

I was going for lots of tactical squads however it seems a banner and command squad is abit too expensive for 750pts and bellow lists. The idea being with lots of squads of roughly the same value that people would have difficultly with target prioritisation, with nothing in particular being a fire magnet. By doing this I'm trying to make the most points-efficient however cheap units.

Take at least one devastator squad with Missile launchers, They are good for against both light armor and hordes, Take Flak missiles only if you have a lot of fliers in your meta.

And yes, you have alot of bolt guns, so take a command squad with the Banner of Devestation.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Auspex doesn't do much for you, especially if you bring a divination librarian. The trick I've found to running greenwing is to spam ten-man tac squads in drop pods. This allows them to usually get a round of shooting at full strength rather than sitting behind an aegis line waiting for a heldrake to come destroy all your hopes and dreams. Be sure to put a melta and combi-melta in each one to take out vehicles. Another good thing to have is a lascannon dev squad or a plasma cannon one. These squads are able to dish out a ton of punishment and usually survive because the enemies focus is on the tac marines.

What about dropping Dev-Squads close to the enemy? Is it too much of a point-waste? Or Flamer Assault Squads?

When I was staffing a tournament, I had to sub in for another player who had to go to a funeral for a game.

His list was a Banner of Devestation 'Greenwing' list with ADL. It puts out amazing volumes of fire, and does very well on boards where terrain is set beforehand.

If you to turn-based terrain placement, these lists can quite easily be countered by most armies with even a TAC list.

Now this was all before the FAQ explaining the Banner's effect on TL-Bolters and Hurricane Bolters. So now with some mobility added to the Salvos...there may be more hope for it.

Spam devastators with missile launchers. All the anti air you need (although the ADL helps too)

2000+ pts Dark Angels
1500pts Death Korps of Krieg
1000 pts Night Lords

You can't spell Imperium of Man without X-treme

I've been wanting to play with drop pod marines in a DA setting, cannot really justify them though compared to SW though.

I should reiterate, right now I'm focusing on 500pt and 750pt lists as I gradually put together my army which currently only consists of 2 tactical squads and a libby. Are drop pods really that necessary at that size points level? The auspex isnt amazing but it's only 5 points and seems pretty handy though?

Thanks @Farseer Faenyin, that's a good pointer about the effectivity of the banner I hadnt thought of.

I want to make the list TAC but specifically for this points level so I'll be ignoring AA for a little while.

How would you change the lists that I've written? Which is best as it is?

Once you get into the higher point range get a CCS with the BoD & put it in a Landraider crusader for dakkadakka shinanigans.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I had an idea to put the greenwing behind two side to side LRCs. Have the TACs march up behind them with a librarian with a PFG. Once you reach a position near center board hold at tha position. The next turn move your tanks to the flanks of the greenwing blob & unleash hells fury of bolter shots at full fire power within range of just about anything nearby while reducing LOS to the blob with the tanks. Ofc this tactic is not valid against certain army lists.
