I have heard a few discussions lately about wither or not necrons can produce more soldiers. What do you guys think??

I would imagine production of units such as Canoptek wraiths, Spiders, scarabs and vehicles would be easy for them. As for the actual necrons themselves, I would have thought it possible to make warriors or immortals, just as robots, without the necrontyr soul. But by that point however, they'd not really be classed as being necrons though.

Short answer, not entirely sure.

No on warriors/immortals/lords since their creation requires the transferred conciousness of a (long extinct) Necrontyr.

Yes for Canopteks - they are AI controlled robots.

It would be impossible to make completely -NEW- Necrons, as they were Necrontyr that underwent the Biotransference procedure, and since there aren't any necrontyr around, that would be impossible.

They do have evolving technology and a solid grasp on existing technology so there's no doubt in my mind that they could always manufacture more of the existing drone-type of warriors, such as Wraiths, Scarabs or Spiders, but I have doubts about producing new actual necron warriors. Not en masse anyway.

Although, there's nothing wrong with incorporating them into your army by making up your own fluff. Who's to say that there isn't some Necron Dynasty that's turning people into Pariahs somewhere. It's not in anything official, but the 40k fluff is always open for you to input your own ideas and concepts. Plus, since it's already happened in the fluff once before, I don't think Pariah's are that out-there as far as what the new Necrons are capable of. Honestly, I was surprised when they were removed from the book after I read it.

It's implied in the Codex as well as some of the BL novels that it is possible to construct a Necrodermis shell of, say, a Warrior and install the software that has replaced anything that we would understand to be a soul.

Truth is, we aren't told a definitive either way.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

As far as I could tell, the *one* weakness of the Necrons was the inability to replenish actual losses or whatever.

Silly me, thinking that the Necrons could actually have a weakness.

What? GW never leaves obscure fluff in their books. It's unheard of!

There are ateat two special characters who are questing to reverse transference... I'm pretty sure if anything an create more Necrons (ie pariahs.. Although new Necrons wouldn't really BE Necrons due to different race) it would be them.

Did the transference technology all disappear after they went to sleep? Not sure why they couldn't just use biotransference on other races, pariahs were just about getting those anti-warp guys but anyone else could just get zapped into a metal body. Theyd probably be considered unclean second class citizens by the originals though.

Well the thing is none of the current races are worthy of being the vessels of the Necrontyr. I imagine that probably some looney Cryptek would start stuffing other races into Necrodermis shells, but he'd probably be seen as extremely eccentric to say the least.

However, it would not be unreasonable for there to be Necrons who think being immortal hyperadvanced robots is awesome and that being cancer ridden fleshbags in constant pain was terrible, and so would try to spread the "gift" of necronization.

They don't really need to, as the vast vast vast majority of necron's phase out on death to be reformed and sent back out there.

You just described all Destroyers and destroyer Lords. Problem with them though is they also love exterminating all life everywhere, so they'd be more likely to pulverize a creature to atoms than to use biotransference on it.

I think it would be possible to a certain degree. Warriors are mindless, so we could easily have them being completely mechanical, just programmed to guard the ship or whatever.

And as far as allies are concerned, I would put it past the Necrons to just Biotransfer a lead figure (SM Captain for arguements sake), and control him from within his armour to lead his warriors against something else, away from the necrons

That's a very flawed understanding of what exactly the Necron Pariahs were.

And quite frankly?
The Pariahs were a terrible piece of fluff. Good riddance.

I honestly do not see why they could not, other then they simply see no other race as worthy. They have the technology to do so, just not the desire or need to do so.

Other than the fact that the "Necrons" are "Necrontyr".

The Necrontyr, as a race, no longer exist. IIRC there was something about there being stored consciousnesses that can be placed into new bodies in the new book though.

The technology was invented by the C'Tan, not the Necron, so other than the Pariahs, there's no proof I can think of that they know how biotransference works.

No, the C'tan showed them how to do it, but used Necrotry technology to do so. They did not oversee the process, in fact they could not, as it was a galaxy wide programe covering untold trillions of souls.

Same with the Dolem gates, the C'tan showed them how to make them, but the Necrons crafted and used them. Not the C'tan.

If I showed you how to make and operate a device; but did not explain how the device works in detail--could you replicate it?

As Spetilhu said. The Necrones built and used these items. The C'tan did not use them, they merely showed them how they were made. The Necrotry were the most technically advanced race ever. They however, like the Tue knew little or nothing about the warp/ psyker stuff.

Once showed it, once they knew how to detect it, why would they not be able to master its technology?

All the C'tan did was to show the necrotry things they could not tap into. Nothing more.

It's made quite clear in the book, that the C'tan simply provided the knowledge of bio-transference. It was Szeras who turned this knowledge into application. So, the Necrons do know how Bio-transference works.

Well, there are probably some who think that being a machine is a gift to be shared rather than something to be kept only for the Necrontyr. The Necron Triarchy was and still is a massive, galaxy spanning entity that easily dwarfs the current IoM (more tomb worlds have been lost to time than there are worlds humanity has ever inhabited). The law of averages says there should be at least one dynasty that wants to spread the metal.

The Necron Triarchy were three individuals, 2 of whom were killed when they turned on the C'Tan.

Meh, triarchy sounds more unique than "empire".

Hrmh.

Must have missed that bit. But still; I can't exactly see the C'Tan giving the Necrontyr all the details.
