It's not my fault, how could anyone resist? Especially someone thinking of a desert board?

Popped into Poundies today for another shipping container (aka box of After Eights), went for a thorough scout in case something exciting had arrived since last week.

A 5kg bag of play sand? That will do nicely.

I thought this would be of interest to others, even if it turns out to be a decade's supply of basing material

Yes, indeed. Everything for a pound, unless it's two or three or four things for a pound.

I've bought a lot of my terrain making supplies there over the last month.

I am not a wargamer, nor do I play one on television.

5Kg is many lifetimes supply unless you make an awful lot of desert armies!

I get my sand free (and illegally) off the beach at West Bay in Dorset.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Why is it illegal to take sand from a beach?

Iranna.

I may look into this, no idea where I'd keep that much sand though. I live in Liverpool, and it's not even worth stealing sand from our 'beaches'.

I would rob the nearest beach, but as I don't have a car, it would be three times the cost in bus fare. This way I can be Lady Bountiful and graciously supply all my friends with sand.

According to Wiki-Answers...

"All beach property is owned by someone - either by a private party or the government. Absent any local ordinance, the removal of sand from a beach is considered theft and you could be charged accordingly under prevailing, criminal statutes."

Huh, who knew?

Poundland do these flat-strainer things in packs of two; makes for a wonderful mesh in terrain pieces. Also packs of cheap superglue

I've been using their pots of ready mixed filler. No problems with it at all.

I bought a can of the grey and a can of the black spray paint yesterday to try out on some scenery. Last week I came home with a 'reusable oven mesh' that looked like it might cut up well into walkway texture.

I wash and dry the beach sand, then grade it with a sieve. You get a variety of grain sizes up to chips and small pebbles, which can help bases look a bit more natural.

For example this Tyrannofex base.

I'm trying out the Poundland spray paint on some foamboard & card walls. It has the most disgusting stench.

I thought I was going to have stop and puke. It is going to need to be awesome to overcome this serious drawback.
