So recently i have started to look up new war games as i have kinda had it with GW, and i obviously found War-machine.
now when i say found, i mean more of found interest in it rather than i never new about it till recently.
me and a friend have been thinking for a while on starting War-machine, he as Cryx, and i as the mighty Cygnar.
yesterday, a friend of mine brought his War-machine and horde armies to my LGS for me and my other friend to try.
we had a blast playing the Circle of Orboros and Protectorate of Menoth, as he didn't bring his other armies, and he taught us the beginning kinda steps. And i really want to get some models to start my Cygnar army.
so now i have no idea what to get first for Cygnar.
kind of a long tale but, yeah. any help?

Some almost auto includes in Cygnar are the Squire and Journeyman warcaster. Other than that, what kind of style do you like to play??

A jack like Ol Rowdy will find use with almost any caster, he is just that efficient.

You'll need input from others to take this very seriously, but from everything I've heard people say on the net, don't try to make a gunline cygnar army.

i enjoy some shooting and then charging the other player and chopping him or her up, so a mix of both.

I'd recommend the pCaine assault army. It involves shooting/assault and then beating face in melee. I usually use stormblades with it

I'd start with the Battlebox. It's always a good idea to build on from that. After that, the things I see from Cygnar the most would be a Journeyman Warcaster, Squire, and Black 13th. After these "core" pieces I'd pick up a few other warcasters, another Jack or two (Hunter is an amazing Light Jack), Arlan Strangeways, and a bigger infantry unit. Do some research into the different ones to find what will best suit the playstyle you're comfortable with.

This men speaks the truth.
Start with the battle box, make a few games to get your feet wet.
After that, add the Squire, the Journeyman Warcaster and the Black 13th. Those are staples that every Cygnar player uses. Get some more Warcasters and see how they interact with your core force.
After all that, hopefully you'll have a better understanding of Cygnar as a whole and also of your own preferred play style so you'll be able to make choices that are more suited for yourself (I really dislike the Hunter for example, despite the vast majority of Cygnar players thinking that it is awesome)...

Something like the Hunter could well struggle in some situations. For example if a lot of your opponents use infantry and only 1 jack in the army or something like that, then you won't get too much mileage out of a hunter. But in clubs like mine, you'd have to be unlucky not to find something for a hunter to shoot up with it's AP ammo.

My dislike of the Hunter doesn't have anything to do with the lack of valid targets in my meta. I don't like the Hunter because it costs 6 points and if you don't use any focus on it you can expect it to put 3 damage points a turn in an ARM 20 warjack, that is just not acceptable to my way of playing and you can get a much better return on investment for those 6 points if you spend them in other things.

Thing is, you do not "No-Focus" a Hunter. You put one focus, or a marshal bonus on it. At that point it is capable of knocking a column off of a heavy on average rolls, or two columns off a bonejack. Expanded control range means that you do not need to run it up in the main scrum, and allows a Jr. to actually move it's jacks independently. There are also a decent number of solos and casters on medium bases. RAT 7 pushes a hunter that boosts to hit into the "Quite likely to hit anything" Category, and even if it just aims it has about a 60% chance of hitting Def 14 (Which seems to be the higher end of these guys defense). Sure, it's no B13 or Ol' Rowdy, but it is still quite an effective unit.

Look over the casters. Check out the PP forums or battlecollege for some basics on each. Then pick one to start with. The army, particularly for Cygnar, is built around that first and most important choice.
Though another "must have" I would list would be gun mages with the UA. Especially if you want to do any sort of shooting.

If you get the gun mage unit get the officer as well. He makes the unit shine.

If your going with ATGM & B13th pick up another caster besides pStryker. He is not bad, but Cygnar live and die by the caster you play. Styker meh at best. I would recommend eCaine or pCaine as he does some pretty cool stuff with the ATGM. Also make sure you get the UA fro the ATGM, without him they are nearly useless.
