Subject: [Eldar] Legality of Forge World units?

Hey all.
Two questions, actually; firstly, are Forge World units, for instance Shadow Spectres, legal to use in competitive play? Secondly, assuming they are legal, where can I find 6th edition FAQs for them?
I found Imperial Armor 11 in one of my buddies stashes, but I'm unsure if they are legal units...if they are, I'm not sure if I would since they seem a bit, uh, powerful? Am I wrong?

They're legal, but you should probably inform your opponant that you plan on using them beforehand.
IIRC Forgeworld are working on 6th edition FAQs for their IA books.

Anything is legal if your opponent will let you use it. He doesn't have to play against FW rules if he doesn't want to, in the same way he doesn't have to play against Eldar if he doesn't want to. Although people would tend to view the former more acceptable than the latter.
If by "competitive play" you mean "in a tournament" then you've come to the wrong place. Dakka can't tell you what your local TO's will rule, and as it's their tournament it's their rules. Ask the people who you're actually going to play against.
Also, Shadow Spectres are in no way overpowered, and IA11 contains their most recent rules with no FAQs applicable. They're expensive, and ultimately not all that effective. Pretty survivable though.

They are as legal as the to for that event says they are.
According to the FW, which is GW, statement, anything with a 40k stamp on it is as legitimate as your codex is

When you say competitive play, do you mean tournaments? Because that is down to the organisers so be sure to check with them first before putting them in your list

Powerful but fragile and expensive.
Tested a couple of times with proxies and having a very hard time justifying the points for them.
I will try again of course but I do not expect to be amazed. Look great on paper but a little volley of bolter, 3 failed saves and your squad is next to useless.

Well, besides the Spectres, I was also looking at the Corsair Prince, Jet Pack Troops, Wasp War Walkers, and a bunch of the more awesome tanks.
Just seems like there's a lot of powerful abilities hidden in there.
In particular, Sky Raiders mixed with some Scorpions or Banshees? Jet Pack Guardians with better BS, Deep Strike, and 4 special weapons?
and...WARP HUNTER!
The list looks pretty strong, I think. Very fast, mobile, deep-striky army. To be honest, the Corsair mini-codex looks like the Eldar codex should. Focus on small units, mobility instead of strait armor, specialize vehicles.
They just look like a bunch of fun Automatically Appended Next Post: Since I'm already here, no need to make a new thread, have a few questions regarding this codex since I've been reading;
1) According to the FAQ, if taken as allies with Craftworld Eldar, they are not only Battle Brothers but they also count as Codex: Eldar units for purposes of casting powers and whatnot, correct?
Direct quote from the FAQ(open pdf, available online): "Eldar Corsairs Armies
When using the Allies Matrix (page 113, Warhammer 40,000 rulebook), Eldar Corsair armies are treated as Eldar armies when both selecting allies to fight alongside them and when using them as allies for another force. The exception to this rule is that they may ally with Eldar armies as Battle
Brothers."
2) Assuming you take the Corsairs as Primary Detachment, then ally with Eldar, you could take Scorpions as your Elite allied detachment, as well as Shadow Spectres as your Primary Detachment Codex: Eldar Elite correct?
For instance;
HQ
Corsair Prince (primary HQ)
Farseer (Ally HQ)
Elites
Scorpions (Primary Elite)
Shadow Spectres (ally Elite)
Troops
Rangers (ally Troop)
Wasp War Walkers (primary troop)
Eldar Corsairs (primary Troop)
This is a legal list, correct?
3) If the above army is legal, the Corsair Prince could give the Scorpions Deep Strike via. Sky Raid, correct?

Not quite. What the FAQ is saying is to determine what level of ally a specific army is, you use the Eldar line. This means for example that Corsairs are BB with Tau and will never ally with Chaos Daemons. Furthermore, Corsairs and Eldar are also BB.
2) Assuming you take the Corsairs as Primary Detachment, then ally with Eldar, you could take Scorpions as your Elite allied detachment, as well as Shadow Spectres as your Primary Detachment Codex: Eldar Elite correct?

This is a legal list, correct?
Almost legal. The only problem is that Shadow Spectres are an Elite choice for Corsairs, not Eldar. Other than that the list is legal.
3) If the above army is legal, the Corsair Prince could give the Scorpions Deep Strike via. Sky Raid, correct?
Yes.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Thanks mate, appreciate it! This list looks fun, I'll have to run a few proxy lists to find a good starting point at the 1000 pt range. I've always wanted to run foot slogging eldar, but I felt their mobility and defense were too low.
I can see an army of Jet Pack Corsairs with heavy weapons would be lots of fun!

Shadow spectres are FA for codex eldar and elite for corsairs so you can still take scorps and spectres in your list. I wouldnt deep strike scorpions though - deep striking fire dragons however is very powerful.
And yeah, corsairs are fun but they are very fragile. I tend to find that during turn 1 and 2, you can really hurt your opponent big time. But, as you start to lose units, which you will, your offensive abilities drop off dramatically. It takes some very careful planning to make sure you have enough units to capture objectives in turns 5 and later.
