1000pts Tau VS Dark Angels

Mission: Crusade (5 objectives rolled)
Deployment: Dawn of War
Nightfighting Turn 1: OFF

This was my first time using my brand new Tau army assembled a day or two before we recorded this, and my opponent's second or third time running his new Dark Angels army making things new for both of us with rather surprising results for our inexperienced armies.

Haha, nice little battle rep. A solid tau list against a shaky DA list. Even if there wasn't the turn 1 tabling (which is going to happen if you only leave 200pts of troop to go against 1000pts of tau) tau really had the upper hand. The had the terminators or the knights came on the riptide would have torn them to shreds and your ample shooting would have picked off anyone who didn't get killed. I think DA overall is a bad match up against tau as tau is so good against elite armies, in higher point games it is a little more fair but in lower point games you can pretty much kill anything they got before they can get to you.

As for the tau list, my biggest suggestion would be to drop the shield drones, they do nothing. Against most ap5+ guns they die just as easily as fire warriors. Against guns with less than ap4 they only have a 50% chance at saving a firewarrior. You are better off just taking more firewarriors. More over your firewarriors usually have cover so the shield drone is needed even less. Next I would drop the shield generator on the broadside. For 25 points it is largely not worth it. But I guess it really doesn't matter because this list has no problem tabling on turn 1 haha.

I agree that the Shield Drones do seem a bit pointless (especially so here, but also in general) and probably will take them less. My general reasoning was that there's a lot of ignore cover in other armies my friends play so having a couple of invuls to take the first wounds might not be a bad idea.

We recorded a second match on the same day where I went up against a slightly higher points Eldar list and things went the distance there. Totally forgot to mention in this video (and that one, I think) but I really liked taking just the single Ion Rifle in the small Pathfinder squads. You could argue another Markerlight might do more overall synergy wise but Overcharging it everytime I fired really paid off since they weren't going to be moving much anyway and always killed something.

Would it be possible to do higher pt batreps? Oviously 1k points is no match for the tau .

Yeah, shield drones are good for models with high saves. But meh.

I really liked this, do some more if you get a chance

We have a 1250 point game recorded, should get it uploaded in a few days.

Kinda looking for a more significant one like 1750 or even 1500. Either way though your videos are entertaining nonetheless, just would like to see more bloodshed!

Ha! Sadly given I only just got the army I can't do much better than 1250pts right now with them
