The more generic sci-fi themed panels are much more appealing than the skull crates from the OP, I think. Congrats on funding!

The "gastarbeiter housing" module isn't bad at all, but the gothic arches do nothing for me, I already have a full table's worth of GW skullwalls.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Another project update this afternoon, with a photo of one of the production samples. Looking good, and nice to see things in actual plastic rather than just 3D renders.

Is it just me or does this scream Imperial Prison?

I like the fluff concept a lot - prefabricated panels designed to be quickly bolted/welded together to make temporary buildings or containers (or buildings made from containers ) - makes sense for many military or industrial or post-apocalyptic settings.

And gaming wise, they look nice and sturdy, and very easy to add further bits or modifications.

Not keen on the gothicy side decoration though - seems overly specific. Would have preferred a different industrial look. If the basic kickstarter does well, you can maybe look at another choice of panel decoration?

I hadn't thought of that at first, stuck me more as part of an imperial ship, down in the cargo holds or something.

Well, there's the other side of the current walls, the modern theme. Though for open plan things you are going to end up with some skulls showing I guess.

If they make to 40.000, they will unlock a Sci-fi theme that fits well with Mantic and Infinity stuff... I just wonder if it will be Sci-fi on both sides, or we get to choose... I am hoping sci-fi on both sides

Well, this is what they've said about that so far:

MAKI - Games wrote:the inside of the set will have a different pattern, but still compatible with the sci-fi theme. In this way you will be able to have 2 different types of buildings and the interior will still be coherent with the exterior theme.

Another update posted today, giving an idea of what you could do with ten Makitaners (Ranger Pledge)

Full details here but picture bellow for an overview.

They've also said that they're looking at side panels to cover the skulls up, which we should hopefully see in the next few days.

Yay! We already get enough lots-of-skulls overkill from another games company which shall remain nameless

In hindsight, it would have made more sense to leave that part of the panels blank, and give the customer several mini-panels (perhaps including lots-of-skulls) to optionally put there, but it may be too late for that now...

Yeah, I think it's a little late for that now, given it looks like the tooling is pretty much finished for the basic set. Unless they find a significant flaw in the production prototypes that they were shipped.

Meh, what the hell. I can afford to toss a little coin at them. Rookie should be enough for now. It'll add a little variety to my Deadzone terrain. One far off day when all my kickstarter stuff finally arrives, that is.

So, much news from Maki over night. They've changed the stretch goals, to bring them closer together and the first one has now been funded.

New goal tree:

And details of the first reward

Which means, with funding currently sitting at $24290 we're close to the first hi tech stuffs.

Finally. I like the container, but won't pledge for 20, 50 or 200 of them

How are you going to make that dockside battlefield table if you don't have 200 cargo containers?

Given their size, I think that 200 is a little over kill

Though someone going for that many would unlock the next stretch goal.

Honestly, this looks a bit sparse for $135. I'm not sure if it's even on par with Mantic's $95 pledge.

It's a little hard to compare the two, imho, due to the $95 Mantic offering mostly being displayed on a 2x4. Though I guess it all comes down to the preferred terrain density for the game you're playing.

In related news, they've just posted shots of the caps to cover the skulls up, pics and stuff here Along with hitting the next stretch goal for the first hi tech theme.

They're very close actually. Each "container" is basically equivalent to 10 Mantic "building tiles" as far as terrain amounts go. 10 containers -> 100 tile equivalents.
Each mantic battlezone is 4 sprues, each sprue with ~7 building tiles, so 28 building tiles per bz -> 112 tiles for mantic and 100 tile equivalent for Maki.

But this isn't actually a fair comparison, for fair one we'd have to take account the 20% more containers stretch goal for Maki (28k loyalty reward), meaning 120 tile equivalents vs 112 tiles.

Next goal will give a lot of free stuff to add to the various pledges. This making it about 20% cheaper or more in some cases. And new accessories packs have been added.

How about a shot with those high walls? Also, wont they screw with the heights on the other buildings? Stairs wont work for them, will they?

Not been officially posted, but the KS has passed the next stretch goal of $32k to unlock the high sci-fi walls.

Large sci-fi walls are now officially unlocked, though it's an extra $10 per set of 5 due to their increased size. Full details of the update here

Can see some truly massive buildings being put together with these should someone plump for 25+ sets.
