My friends informed me today , that they are switching from w40k to warmachine/horde and as play mostly against them , I decide to switch too. I first though about starting a horde list , but sadly there arent many models sold for them here . This left me with cygnar and merc as my friends already took Khador , Legion ,Druids and cryx. And becuase there are no merc casters sold here , am stuck with cygnar. Those are the models I can buy right now

I also talked about with people who played warmachine and I can trade some of my IG stuff for 2 Ironclads 1 centurion 1 darius and two merc solos [elf and dude with blade guns who I think looks awesome].

My question is which of the models I should buy first to get a 35-50pts army , that doesnt get owned by khador/druids/cryx/legion too much ?

Unfortunately those models choices are not really made to go with each other. You could realistically pick up a few and just play them anyways but in terms of Cygnar synergy there really isn't a 25-35pt combo in that list that would be very effective.

That is a horrible thing to hear. :(

But with only a few additions you do get a better force. For example Siege, Squire, Reinholdt, Defender, you can probably make a pretty entertaining 25/35 list with the trenchers and grenadiers and what not that you have there.

I haven't bought anynothing yet, I would have to sell my IG in the first place anyway . The units I listed is the stuff I can buy here or trade with people .
Is it true that in warmachine counts as is not accepted Because I could buy the trenchers and a cygnar deck list to get a gunmage strike force or those siege squires.

Hmm it's difficult, since being able to identify things at a glance is really important, counts as is hard to get away with. We play with it at my local store in friendly play sometimes, but it's usually when the guy has the model in a blister waiting to be assembled when he gets back home, or he left it at home, or something like that, it's not the norm.

Don't bother with the deck. Seriously. It's a waste of money. You get all the cards with the models when you buy them, and if you need to do research on what to get next, it's cheaper to buy the deck on war room than it is to buy the physical deck.

War rooms are those multi faction codex ?

War Room is an app on both apple and android which gives you army building capabilities and the cards for different armies. You get certain cards for free, and then buy more as you want to. It does have some bugs, but I find it quite useful.

So say you want the Cygnar Deck (and the Merc Deck because that's going to eventually be a large part of your Cygnar army), you'll probably be set back 12 bucks if you were buying it here, not sure what the price is over there. Which is about the price of 1 physical deck here. And cards are updated/added to the deck as they are released (for example I have the Cygnar deck, and when Tempest Blazers were released their cards just showed up on the day for free).

Does anyone in your area play Infinity? I've found that to be great fun personally. And if you already own a guard army, why are you done gaming?

People play GW games or warmachine/horde here. Some people play historical games with very small models , but only in one shop and it is 2 hour away from where I live . I don't realy know what infinity is , aside for that I never saw anyone play it. I always played w40k against my friends , I cant do tournaments because my army is painted and most people dont want to play against an IG army . I think I had less then 10 games against strangers since I started playing , that is including demon games .

Most of the models you listed are midrange to low end for effectiveness. It sounds like leftover stock the store had from the mk1 to mk2 rues shift. The warcasters are perfectly fine buys but can't stand on their own. I think you'll be buying things not readily available to you either way so there is little need to pin yourself into a faction right now. If you want to play mercenaries or a hordes faction this is your excuse to re-examine those options. If you stick with cygnar there is a plastic battlegroup box that is typically the most recommended starting point. You can probably get your store to order that and a few other things for you. There are also, of course online retailers since you don't seem to have a local store.

The good news is that any store that wants to stay in business will see a new group of wm/h gamers pop up and probably begin stocking more things, making continued purchases easier than starting up.

Starting up any game is a little confusing so don't be afraid to take it slow.

Don't be too down, there are options here

Firstly, I'd say you're starting a little too grandly - don't get a 50 or even a 35pt army right from the start, rather try getting a smaller army, even 15pts worth, to practice on and learn the ins and outs of the game. Hell, even starting with the Battlebox starter set for Cygnar and having battle box games against your friends is a great way to learn how your battle group works. My first half a dozen games were with only the battlebox stuff, and my next half a dozen games were under 20pts, and it helped a lot just to slowly work up to the full game.

So, I'd recommend seeing if your store can order you in the battle box, a squire, a full unit of gun mages and the gunmage officer, and buy eCaine. That will give you a few options to play with - battlebox games, or enough points to play around with a 15pt pStryker list, or a 15pt eCaine list. From there you could try some Trenchers and a Grenadier from the stock you listed to get the list up to 25. Marshal the Grenadier to the Gun Mages, put it next to the trenchers and it can shoot 3 times a turn with Rune Shots. By the time you've had some games with all of that, you'll know how you feel about the game (and whether you want to get in further), and you'll have an idea about what's works with what.

Also, do you play in the store? If not, you might consider buying online to start off your force, if only because it will probably be quicker for you.

Went to my FLGS and asked around looks like PP is months late with sending them stuff and what is worse they have some sort of strange contract that forces the store owner from buy warmachine/horde products directly from PP. My friends didnt buy their stuff at the FLGS one of them has family in Chicago and he bought the stuff for them . They even go a nice discount for buying stuff for 4 whole armies .

You are probably right but they bought whole armies and no one plays under 35pts from what I heared . I even asked about only jack/big monsters games and it seems they are only played in demo games.

Yes I play only in stores , I cant buy stuff online I dont have a credit card.

Talk with people who play or played warmachine and they told me to use mercs , when I cant get my hands on cygnar units .

a full dwarf unit with UA , shields and guns
a full unit of dwarfs with hammers
2 small jacks that looks like dogs for dwarfs to marshal .
9 nyss hunters

I could get those realy cheap.

Is there a way to comine those with the cygnar stuff and get en effective army ?


Ah and I could also get a 2 chargers and 1 seintinal and some sort of mini jacks that can turn in to mines.

It is hard to tell exactly what is available to you from the descriptions. If the 9 nyss are actually the full unit of 10 with Cylena that is a good buy. If it is 9 models then something is missing and I'd probably pass. If the risen are the boxed unit with Alexia and not just a single blister they are good. the risen blister isn't playable without the Alexia box. Thor and the two rhulic lights are pretty good, as is Ragman and the full 10 man unit of hammer dwarfs.

Assuming the best I was able to put together a functional 35 point list. it isn't the best but it will at least stand up to a fight.

I am not sure I'd buy the metal hammersmith when the new plastic kit is so nice but if it is cheap and you are that eager to start then go for it. The two chargers might be more reasonable buys, even if your list is left with less anti-armor.

You can't run nyss hunters without the leader. The unit of nine cannot be played. You could proxy her or maybe make a parts order From PP, but why not proxy the full unit or buy the full unit from somewhere without the high shipping fees?

The highshield gunners aren't bad but there are models in cygnar that do the job better. You could use them early on but as soon as your collection grows I fear they will gather dust.

Orin Midwinter is an enemy of Cygnar and will not work for them at all.

Problem with nyss is that I could get them from a guy who sells WM stuff from his collection , the shops here dont have any nyss in stock . Well I guess I will just run 2 units of shield dwarfs and one unit of hammer dwarfs ,2 chargers , 1 dwarf mini jacks , rag and thor . I'll try runing this with cain . I was told nemo works nice with jacks .


realy sad to hear that midwinter cant be used in cygnar.I hope he would be my replacment for a journeyman warcaster.


Had my first few games today at 35 pts , lost all but I was kind of a expacting that being new and all.
my list was

2x units of shield and gun dwarfs

What I noticed is that while cain is fast and can kill a lot of infantry he doesnt realy have the focus to support jacks. with 2 additional shots bought an upkeep there was just no focus to give to the chargers , specialy as their guns are the same power as cains , but cain has higher hit chance.

the other thing was more an observation about my opponents lists . Am not sure if am right but fury seems to be less efficient then focus and with transfering it is virtualy impossible to win through a caster kill , unless all beasts are already dead or full on fury. Second is the inability to deal with jacks or beasts. How is cygnar dealing with armies that run 5 beasts or 2-3 big jacks in 35 pts games .
This are the 3 armies I played against yestarday and today and I would like to hear some tips how to deal with them

I was suprised how fast it is and that it ingores LoS, terrain and everything . Got killed two times through caster kill . those flying beasts are just impossible they have a huge charge range and when there are two of them it is impossible to hide from them . The second time I tried to make a wall of dwarfs around cain , but his first anglius killed just enough dwarfs to let the second one get two attacks an cain and he went splat .


Second player had two lists and I played against both

this list just destroyed me . my shield wall dwarfs were dieing to snipers . they were much slower then legion , so I tried to back padle and split his jacks , but my opponent pointed out that If I dont get closer he wins turn 2 end . We refought the game with me moving closer and it ended with a slaughter . I also learned that cain maybe hard to hit , but blast dmg can kill him anyway because of his low armor .
His second list consited of sorscha and one big ass unit winterguard with milions of rules , that wouldnt die wouldnt get hit , had armor better then chargers . But this game was a lot more fun at least I got to kill some stuff with my feat.

my last game was against the local ex-ganger using a skorn list . Now non of my friends picked skorn so I didnt knew what the army does .What I saw how many big beasts he brought I thought he would be slow just like the khador list . Boy was I wrong he didnt let me write down all he had , but I remember bronsbacks and gladitor titans and paingivers . I again couldnt deal with tough beasts he brought and at the same time couldnt stay at range because of auto scenario losing .
