I've played 6 or so games with my necron force and a decision I keep having to make is this; do I give any of my Royal Court/Overlords (usually I run 2 lords and an overlord) the Tesseract Labyrinth? At first it was a no-brainer, 20pts for what was the best anti-character weapon going besides the near-mandatory warscythe. And yet after 5 games, I'd had a go at Flyrants, GK Grand Masters, Wolf Lords and more, with absolutely 0 kills, which is odd considering on most characters its a kill 50% of the time. Yet today it sucks up the SW lord with chainfist thunderwolf and Storm Shield about to absolutely pulverise my )eventually game-winning) Monolith, meaning my 60pt lord pays his points 3 times over and saves my sorry metal butt. So my query is this... Is it worth taking the Tesseract Labyrinth, and if yes, how many?

I would say no. It's fairly easy for the enemy to avoid getting in base contact with your lord/overlord, is a one shot attempt at getting rid of a single model, and prevents you from using your warscythe for the turn iirc.
Spend the extra 20 points on a cryptek or something.

I more meant for challenging that pesky OP warlord (Nemesis warding stave grand masters I'm looking right at you here).
You do lose the warscythe so you know Fafnir13.
And Crypteks are 25pts minimum but it's a good shout, thanks

Nothing stops you from taking MSS and the Tesseract, other then the now 35 points you've spent just on assault defense/offense.
Crypteks are 25 point min, yes. I was referring (badly) more to the potential upgrades you could be throwing onto them. A pulse, a few nightmare shrouds, or any other number of toys which have good potential.
If you do go with it, make sure you invest in both sempitermal weave and a phase shifter. Since it's used instead of attacking, I can only assume it is used on the Overlords Initiative. You'll want to make sure you survive that long.

They're always a hilarious addition to the RCDI, but otherwise not really worth taking.
(if only it was possible to use your pokeball without having to be in base-to-base. Maybe then we'd have an answer to how to take out a Riptide. At the moment, if we want to pokeball it, we've gotta get through the flood of overwatch shots first before we can make it into contact to use it... usually doesn't work out)

If you're not making it through Overwatch, you don't have enough Warriors in the unit. :p

Take as many MSS and Tesseract Labyrinths as you can in one squad and then charge your opponents death star...

You answered your own question. Warscythes are outright evil, and work every turn with multiple strikes. Combine with mindshackle scarabs for outright destruction. The labyrinth is a gimmick, the scythe is a real weapon.

I've wanted to take them in the past for laughs... unfortunately destroyer lords can't take them! I want to put them on the HQ that has the most chance of actually making it to CC ;-)

In my view, for pure coolness, they're worth taking.

if you're assaulting with Warriors, you're doing it wrong.

It is better to assault then be assaulted, so long as it isn't just a free kill for your opponent. It's especially important if you're using MSS as you get to control the order of challenges/scarabs and what you're initially in base contact with.

Standard loadout is usually as follows: scythe, weave, shifter, MSS, labyrinth, phylactery. Its pricey as heck (and pretty much every upgrade under the sun available) but it works when you run into force weapons or a very angry ragnar blackmane (who was massacred for the cost of 0 wounds, sorry wolfie it just wasn't your day). The "pokeball" is a gimmick until you run into a deathstar thunder-hammer-storm-shield squad of TWC or equivalent, then you thank whoever invented the things. I'll keep running it for now on a lord or overlord and see what how they do under more intense scrutiny, but thanks all for the advice.
Oh and Dr Serling, scythes won't cut an inv. save so as evil as they are its good to have a back-up gimmicky or not.
