Subject: Chalky Primer??

Ok So apparently I cannot spray white primer correctly, or something is up but it could be just me. Just picked up some Warmachine and attempting to prime them white using Army Painter matt white primer. I've had complete success with green, black, and grey but the white does not want to go down smooth at all. I've tried it outside (which its way to humid) and inside in my paint room which has AC and ventilation. I'm roughly 10 inches away from the models at a 45 degree angle using short light burst of paint to cover. They are still coming out with texture on them and I can run my fingers over them and they just feel off.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome. The Primer is totally screwing up the airbrushing!!
Thanks Guys!

There must be something about the pigmentation, because it always seems to be white sprays causing trouble. As the others have said, getting closer should help. Just be sure to move quickly, as the more concentrated spray will build up and cause pools and runs that much faster.

Is there a particular reason you're using white instead of black?

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Thanks guys im gonna go a few inches closer and see if that helps out.
I prefer using grey or black most of the time but since these minis are a white color scheme for the most part I'm using a white primer to keep the brightness there and using brownish grey to do the shadowing under the final white coats of paints.

I only ever under coat in black if the models are very dark colours. or are mainly metalic. other wise i use Vallejo Grey Base to undercoat with.

Try bleached bone spray next time you go shopping for supplies. Its a good midtone that accepts whites/brights very well.
As for the textured spray, try shaking it vigorously for like 10 minutes. I found a 8 yr old old-school primer (one with red gretchin like logo) that sprayed on textures. I shook it for like 15 minutes and it was MUCH better. Still, wasn't as good as a fresh can though.
