I'm from the future. The future of space

I voted for Legion. Well, I'd actually settle on an amendment to the eyeless sight rule. "I just ignore all that" isn't really tactically interesting when it comes to stealth, concealment, etc.,. I say this as a Legion player who's finding playing them boring as a result of ignoring so many rules. Perhaps it's time to sell them off.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Meh, instead of ditching Eyeless Sight I'd rather get rid of Pathfinder on most of their heavies. It makes no sense that this huge lizard can crash through a Forest like its nothing, being able to see where you are going doesn't change that rough ground is rough ground. Heck Circle is the faction of trees and even they don't have Pathfinder on all those nimble werewolves

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

You guys are probably right about the pathfinder thing. Eyeless sight is just one layer of Legion's "I ignore those rules" approach that I find boring.

I think it might be the terrain builder in me. I make some terrain and then legion hits the table and I'm like "I guess I built that for no reason at all-- I'm functionally playing on an empty table."

Troll Bloods - unlike every other faction listed there is nothing I like about their models or background.

Definitely Retribution. I will never forget the horror I felt the first time I set eyes upon a myrmidon. They look like utter gak, and the more you look at them the worse it gets.

Retribution, in fact just yesterday I received an online order, I ordered my son up $75 worth of trollbloods in a mixup I received about $250 worth of Ret, easily a 35pt army, if it was ANY other army I would have been pleasantly happy not so much in this case.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

At this point I think the one thing CoC has going for them is they make Ret look less out of place.

trolls, i hate them. I hate the fluff, I hate the look. Trolls need to go away.

As far as gameplay I don't quite care but fluff wise death to the trolls.

Legion. They don't really aesthetically fit, and after several years, I still don't think having pseudo-autonomous evil mind control makes any sense.

Also, I think they look ugly.

Retribution is second, with a coherent but stupid story and aesthetics that also don't fit.

Protectorate is next. Like legion, I don't think they make sense. Also, I wish they hadn't gone more and more in the direction of "we're the knights army!"

After that, whatever, probably Cryx, just 'cause they're not fun to play against.

CoC, a friend got a hold of the book at lock and load and I was looking through it and it feels like a massive retcon. Oh these guys were here for centuries worshiping a goddess that is a primal force whose been around forever. But you're just now finding out about them because their MASTERPLAN is now being fulfilled.

Plus the models look worst than the trolls do. With the exception of the clockwork angels those are awesome. Maybe Nemo can make us some that shoot lighting, that would be cool.

You know, other than the fact that they were in the first book that Privateer ever published...

Really? Well I feel a bit of an ss. Honestly the only PP books I've read are army books(Cygnar, trolls, menoth, LoE CoC) and the minirule books.

I retract my statement on their fluff, but I still stand by my personal assessment of the aesthetics of the models.

Aside from all the horrible CoC jokes that can be made, I like the fluff concept that their jacks are all a human spirit inside a machine. Gives it more of a homey feeling to the faction. I have no intention of playing them, but gives me less of a reason to hate them.

That's their infantry. The jacks are a sort of remote mind control by the war caster due to their view of cortexes as heretical (breaking the Harmonic forbidding the creation of artificial intelligence).

Agreed. On both counts.

My buddy (who I got into WM with) plays Menoth. Weve had 2 games, and Ive lost both times. Both were fairly close at the end, it just seems when its critical he makes awesome rolls, and I flub them. Ive come out strong, had him on the ropes...then his brilliant luck kicks in (hes the luckiest person Ive ever met), at the same time my bad luck kicks in, and the game changes rapidly. Theres also the fact that we were using the quick start rules (rulebook wasnt on hand) and we had to guess at a few things. We werent sure about spray weapons, so we assumed they auto hit (bypassing a DEF check)...that hurt me real bad. Lost a jack and my caster to several spray shots. Upon checking the rulebook later it turns out they dont auto hit, and I took a lot of damage I might not have had to. I also made several tactical blunders in that game. Didnt use Snipe to increase my range, forgot all about the casters feat, etc.

While we both have much larger armies than just the starters, we are going to run a bunch of rapid fire games tomorrow. We both agree that we dont have the basics (like what to roll when, what stat to use, etc) down by heart yet. SO we are gong to go smaller than the starters. Probably just the caster and one jack. Run the games over and over, maybe testing some of our other casters and jacks, until we have the basics by heart, then go back to the full starters and beyond.

I would say play a game with the battle box stuff first to get the basics down and be a bit more balanced, then move up to 15 pts. It is a bit easier to learn the basics of the game like that. But that is my honest opinion on it though.

Skorne. How many angry elf factions do there need to be?

Most of the other factions, at least, are loosely based on history (Protectorate= Middle Ages Crusaders, Khador= Russia, etc)

Skorne aren't elves. They actually are not even all that angry either.

I would also argue that Skorne have influences from many real world cultures such as the Romans, Persians, and feudal era Japan.

You completely misunderstood Skorne

Skorne is like the least angry faction of them all. Skorne does it all for pleasure, not out of anger
