Me and my brother have been playing HG: Blitz for about a year now and we both have 1200+TV armies (I'm north, my brother south)
Now my brothers army doesn't work at all with the new south army book. He's a fan of many of the odd gears and now he can maybe do one legal squad. It totally killed all our enthusiasm for the game.
So, why exactly did they do it? Doesn't make any sense to completely ruin peoples armies.

The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

To my understanding, there was a lot of data that 4-model squads had advantages over 5 model squads. That's all I know, though. It was no a decision that made me jump for joy, and I don't even really get into the South. (I have a small ESE force, and had to re-build it as well.)

What they came out with is alot more lenient than what they started with; a large fan outcry on the forums brought the issue to their attention. They unfortunately didnt budge any on the four man squad rules but they did increase the manufacturing swap numbers and variety. What figs is he trying to use and how many of each? Some are almost as common as before whereas others are still screwed despite the changes.

Talking with my local group, one of the reasons for the change was that there were simply too many odd variations in the past.
