What's the context? Is it a personal duel? Are they each leading a unit? An army? Are they competing not to kill one another, but to complete some sort of goal? (IE, both are trying to punch through enemy lines and destroy the ork commander. Who kills him first?)

In the absence of any of that, I will go ahead and assume you are just asking about who wins in a personal, no backup, one on one confrontation to the death. In which case we still lack the requisite information. Is this occurring in fluff or on the table? Since this is the 40k background section, I assume you mean in fluff. My personal opinion is that in fluff, Yarrick wins. Stracken beats the old commissar to a bloody pulp, and everyone thinks he's finished, but then Yarrick does the zombie-sit-up and tear's Stracken's leg off. On the tabletop? My personal opinion is that Stracken wins more often than not.

Oh, and no matter who wins, at some point the fight devolves into a bionic arm-wrestle, at least for a few seconds, which Yarrick ends by blasting Stracken with his laser eye.

Personal duel, fluff-wise or tabletop.

Never thought of it like that. I always saw straken win but forgot that yarrick doesn't die, he passes out momentarily before getting back up. Anyone else smell a necron?

What's cooler, a reasonably sized bionic arm, or a giant friggin power claw? Advantage: Yarrick.

Furthermore, Straken has a bandanna, and Yarrick has a peaked cap. Yarrick wins again.

Finally, Orks believe that Yarrick is invincible. Due to their psychic aura, Yarrick is now invincible. Game over.

Straken has a shotgun, which is cool and all, but Yarrick has a storm bolter, which AFAIK is only otherwise used mounted on vehicles or given to elite space marines.
Straken has a bionic arm and eye. Yarrick has a giant fething ork warboss' power klaw arm and an eye... with lazors.
Straken leads from the front. Yarrick rides a black and gold pimp-chariot rocking more skulls than a khorne beserker, which is the biggest target on the field, with sod all protection for himself.
Straken once dragged a wounded man halfway across a continent. Yarrick would have shot him in the head and moved on much faster.
Straken operates on death worlds where any plant could try to kill you. Yarrick operates on a world where there are no plants because the atmosphere killed them.
Straken lost his arm in a fight against a shark, and killed it (most likely) with his knife. Yarrick lost his arm in a fight with a warboss and decapitated it in one swing, then calmly resumed fighting until the orks had routed because they were so terrified of him.

to be fair straken had half his torso bitten off, strangled the shark with one hand, and remained silent the entire time so as not to give his squads position away. Then went on to kill off a fethload of tyranids(?) with his squad before getting treatment for it.

I'm just working off his unit entry in the codex, there all it says is a shark bit his arm off and he cut out its throat with his knife. Though if that stuff is true, he wins that part... though Yarrick still wins in all the others

Its Obviously Commissar Cain & his trusty aid who wins.

Shotgun< Storm Bolter< Meltagun!
Bionic Fingers Are way better then bionic arm and stuff...well not really. But Cain does all his stuff without bionics is a plus rather then a minus.
A scout salamander is far better then a raging baneblade, who is gonna shoot at the salamander and who will shoot at baneblade? Plot armour only gets you so far!
Cain would of made Jurgan carry the wounded soldier, so he can fight un-impeded, then carry the soldier the last 5 minutes and unintentionally get the glory.
Cain fights where he is told, and isn't some self righteous commissar who thinks he can dis regard orders to go chasing an ork across the galaxy, or so specialist as to only fight on deathworlds.
Cain Kicked a chaos lord of a cliff, fought multiple hive tyrants and genestealer patriarchs, inquisitors and Ork warbosses without losng any part of his anatomy, save a few fingers from escaping a tomb world...on his own!

Cain wins, Cain always wins. Does Yarrik become a saint? Cain does

And creed outflanks an Imperator titan behind Jurgan and CREEEEEEEEEDD wins. Gains sainthood, then turns into a primarch of his own legion as the Emperor recognizes his greatness.

Then it turns out the admechs inside the Titans are infact adjents of Aberley Vale who then turn on creed who has infact replaced himself with a clone. Then while Cain is wandering away he falls down a whole into Creeds secret base, gets almost killed, Jurgen saves the day like always. There you go, a whole nother Cain book!

Cain sucks, he loses because he's a terrible Mary Sue character in a terrible book series.

Yarrick in the few lines of codex fluff he has still manages to be better-written than the protagonist of an entire novel series.

Also that's off topic.

I'd vote for Yarrick against Straken, personally, though I might be slightly biased. But the man's sheer endurance is phenomenal.

Straken. In terms of fluff, he'd punch Yarrick's guts out with his super speed, or just blow his head off with a shotgun before Yarrick could go 'For the Emprah!' xD

If we're looking at armies, I'd like to see 120,000 wolves make it past millions of steel legion, if they even make it past the artillery bombardment.
Or Yarrick could just close the hatch of the fortress of arrogance and chill inside while the sponsons do their work.

Pump action shotgun beats plasma pistol in terms of badassery

a lever action pistol would actually be pretty cool...

edit: ooh, it's already a thing, pretty damned snazzy looking, too:
Spoiler:

anyway, back on topic, storm bolter would beat a plasma pistol. It has twice the range, much higher fire rate and is just as likely of ruining a human's day (though strackan might get lucky with his bionics).

Infiltrate 5 men... inside a baneblade? I doubt even the Tanith scouts could manage that one
Also, Yarrick is possibly the least cowardly guardsman ever. "Oh, I'm horribly outnumbered by a force led by the most powerful and tactically effective ork of the past 10,000 years? Better call the commander of the planet a d-bag and engage him in hand-to-hand combat."

Straken can infiltrate everywhere. In fact, he's probably behind you right now. Oh well.

Seriously, now. I think is a fair fight, Straken bionic arm and Yarrick powerklaw are the same thing, basically power fists. Yarrick can shot you with a mini-lasgun. LOL, bolter can't do anything to Straken, why a mini-lasgun should be a problem? Straken could simply blown Yarrick heads with his shotgun and laugh about it. But again, Yarrick is pratically immortal, since he got up everytime he was "dead".

But I have bias toward Straken, I love catachans, so yeah... Straken ftw.

Bionic arm is a powerful arm which can crush stuff pretty damn well.
Power klaw is a hydraulically-operated klaw surrounded in a force field which rips through inch-thick metal like paper, originally operated by an ork warboss.

Storm bolter can blow holes in the non-bionic parts of Straken, and damage the bionic parts. With much further range, it's about as deadly to him as a shotgun is to Yarrick. And that "mini-lasgun" is a hotshot, which is overcharged to the point where it tears through metal like a knife through butter, including bionics.

Both are legendary in their ability to survive stupid amounts of gak- Straken through brute toughness, Yarrick through sheer force of will, though both are eventually going to run out. I doubt even yarrick could survive a shotgun or plasma round to the face, though I also doubt straken could take a solid burst from a storm bolter, and my money's on Yarrick in the event of an arm-wrestle.

In fluff, I'd say bionic arms could do stuff like break limbs. In background however you interpret it, a power klaw outmatches a bionic arm.

yeah but its not JUST a bionic arm... if it can do more than a power klaw it clearly outmatches the klaw... besides with no orks around do we even know his Klaw will work? its mentioned several times ork tech only really works as well as it does because they think it works
