alright guys so i am thinking into when i want to start my next army and what my next army should be.
My main problem with my choice is chaos space marines seem to be so neutral in the fact that they can do everything pretty well and have fun lists that can be stationary and shooty or very fast moving and killy in CC. but that is my first problem with my choice because i am looking for something that is on the far side of the spectrum from chaos space marines. i want an army that is strong not overpowered have effective lists in 6th and are generally fun to play and wont kill my wallet.
i have narrowed it down
to these armies
1. Necrons
2. eldar
3. dark eldar

Necrons are very interesting, although it might not be such a big switch for you since you'd be going from one overpowered flier spam army to another
I've been pondering Eldar a little myself. It's the one army I know least about from a playstyle perspective (never even seen them on the table. Only army I haven't at least seen a few turns played with). You might want to grab that new Eldar codex when it hits and start from there.

I would suggest that the armies you have narrowed it down to have nothing in common with your requirements. Necrons - overpowered flyers. That's not entirely true.. The flyers appear to be overpowered because they are dirt cheap, have zero drawbacks, incredible weapons and it's too easy to spam lots of them. While most armies have almost nothing, at this time, to deal with them (ignoring the ADL of course). Eldar - Today they are "meh". 2 weeks from now? Who knows. Dark Eldar - models look great; just plan on getting your butt kicked. Often. Although it is a good choice if you are a masochist; you know, the type of person that gets off on being abused. ---------- Honestly, I'd say wait a couple weeks and see what the Eldar dex brings. They are certainly different to CSM right now; hopefully the update will continue that path.

I would wait till Eldar are out then re-evaluate your choices and make a final decision. They are right around the corner, patience is a virtue.

I started with the Necrons, and when I went to my second army, I went Tyranids. I wanted a different playstyle, and I sure got it.
A wait and see on the eldar is good advice. Thought I can't say it is wallet friendly. $115 for the wraithknight.. gross.

Necrons are great, but they are also like CSM in that they are not at any "end of the spectrum", they have units to fulfill all roles.
Eldar, new book, at least wait for that and see how they are, they might be just what you are looking for.
Dark eldar, are often described as 40k - hard mode. They are ultra glass cannon, where if you have not tabled your opponent by turn 4, you will most likely be dead by turn 5.
